His skin was sweaty and caked with dirt, the palms of his hands were already beginning to develop thick callouses, and twinges of pain followed the aches that snaked throughout his body, causing a slight stutter in his step.. The witch’s night had been dedicated to his craft—digging up a grave in order to complete his latest necromancy spell—and his appearance reflected the unsavory work that had been done. 

If Rashad were any luckier, his car would have chosen a more fortunate night to stall. At least he could consider it a lesson learned—always keep emergency cleaning supplies within his car—apparently there was no guarantee he would make it home. 

Turning his head toward the sudden sound of halting footsteps, Rashad met the inquisitive gaze of the stranger head-on, a slight smile spreading across his features. “What? I fell.” 

Grave robbing wasn’t her thing, but there had been a ring she needed for a particularly nasty spell. Blood curses were a bitch, but the pay was too good to pass up. Still, She hadn’t really been expecting to come across anyone leaving as she was getting there.

“You fell? What, into an open grave?” she countered, a faint smirk ghosting her lips as she looked him over. She could read the aura on him well enough to know there was magic there.
