“So I’ve noticed.” Which was mainly why he didn’t have a solid response either, but he didn’t really mind. He’d known enough people like that over the years to learn how to handle it.

“I don’t… tend to leave people. Which isn’t always wise, but well…. I likely wouldn’t even be a reaper if wise choices were my default. Konis has already tried to stab me. I’ve seen her mean and I’ve seen her sad and I don’t plan to leave because of either of those things. If I go, it will be because I’m not physically capable of coming back, either by magic or a more permanent death.”

“Do you love her?” She didn’t have to ask, not really. He wouldn’t be staying around if he didn’t. Most people couldn’t handle Konis on a good day after all.

There was a hardness in her gaze as she studied him. He had never seen the depths of her damage, Avalon was certain of that. She had seen her sister shred people with her talons when she was having a meltdown, had cleaned up those messes. Until he really saw her at her absolute worst, he couldn’t say for sure. “Stabbing is nice for her.”

babyitsmagic‌:

“I’m not sure it’s extreme enough,” he answered flatly. “Could call a Mahlendorf.” But even he wasn’t sure he was desperate enough for that sort of situation. He’d sell to the family when they were around, but he didn’t like interacting with them. Maybe he didn’t mess with that shit anymore, but he’d poked at enough magic that they made even him nervous.

“I have never done anything warrant that!” Her eyes were burning with the threat of tears as she stared at him. The most she had ever done to him was make sure his hangovers weren’t absolute hell. The hardest part of hearing him make that comment was the fact that he had been the closest thing to a friend she actually had.

babyitsmagic‌:

“Noted,” he answered, though his concern on that front was minimal. He knew enough about the god of death to know that violence was hardly his first inclination. But he would still be cautious; better safe than sorry, he supposed.

He shrugged. “I suppose you’d have to ask her that. I’m not… entirely certain. But my answer would be whatever she wants. I’m content to just… be around her.”

“She doesn’t answer questions.” Anyone that had known Konis for longer than a moment knew that. Part of it was because she didn’t know what the hell she wanted anymore other than to be loved, and she was too damn afraid to admit it.

“Look, Konis is fragile. Emotionally and mentally. Do not stick around if you don’t intend on sticking through her worst moments. The only person that has never given up on her is Illyria and I don’t think my sister could handle anyone else abandoning her.”

babyitsmagic‌:

Even if her expression hadn’t revealed the truth, he’d have known it was right. It made sense and he felt so stupid for not letting himself notice sooner. “If you don’t fuck off, I’m going to call someone. Probably a Holden.” He thought he’d heard rumors Rosalyn being not too far from here, though the woman hadn’t stopped by to pick anything up.

If nothing else, that sent a jolt of fear through her entire body. She knew some folk didn’t like witches, but she had never done anything to warrant that sort of response. “That’s a little fucking extreme,” she countered, her voice cracking a little. She didn’t even know he knew anyone like that and she knew there was no way she could go home now. Not if he was serious about calling in one of the bigger names in hunting.

babyitsmagic‌:

It clicked then, because he should have realized it sooner, but maybe he’d been intentionally ignoring it. It probably didn’t help that he’d been drinking nearly every time they’d interacted. “I’m a fucking idiot. You’re a witch.” He knew. He’d gotten his hands on plenty of spellbooks. He’d been studying magic before everything had gone to shit. He’d know the name, he just… hadn’t believed it, maybe.

The color drained from her face, but still she forced a laugh, playing like it was the most ridiculous thing she had ever heard. “A witch? Really? Is this going to turn into some Monty Python joke?” Her hand went to the back of her neck, but she tried to pass it off as an itch and not a nervous habit of touching the sigil tattooed, well, branded there.

babyitsmagic‌:

“Acacia rings some bells,” he answered, letting his hand fall back to his side. He tipped his head, studying the other woman for a moment. “But not all of them good ones, I’m afraid.” She was on the list of people Konis had pushed away at some point or another, though he didn’t think Ko really blamed her sister for that. “What brings you by? Is it finally time for the family to threaten my well-being if I break her heart? Because I can assure you I have no plans to do so, for whatever that’s worth.”

“I’m not shocked.” Konis didn’t have a lot of kind words for most people, especially herself. But she doubted he needed to be told just how much her sister hated herself. No one could ever hate the woman more than that. “Oh I’m just the warm up. It’s Thanatos you need to worry about meeting.” Truthfully, Ava wasn’t sure her brother would pull anything like that, but he might. It was the closest to a warning she would give on that front.

“What exactly are you doing with my sister?”

pettythieveswithpotential‌:

“Soft,” he corrected. Which wasn’t necessarily weakness, although it was an unfortunate trait given how dangerous the majority of the Fischers were. But if Ozzy belonged to some other part of the family, he’d be fine. He gave a shrug. “You get to give her shit for being dumb? Seemed like something you’d enjoy doing.”

She rolled her eyes but let it drop. He could say soft all he wanted, but Ozzy was weak and he was going to end up getting himself killed some day. She didn’t doubt that even a moment. “The problem is she’s not dumb and she knows it. Doesn’t do a whole hell of a lot of good there.”

“Gun’s fixed. Do I need to give you the gun care lecture again or are you not going to be stupid with?”

babyitsmagic‌:

“You weren’t joking and I can’t deal with any more supernatural bullshit so leave.” He took mental stock of his supplies, trying to remember if he had anything even remotely useful handy or if it was all in the workshop. He had his phone at least and a fair share of hunters he could call.

She snorted at that, resisting the urge to rub the tattoo on the back of her neck. Daniels was a common enough last name, until you got away from humans. “Then what the hell would I be? A leperchaun? Oh, no, you’re right, I’m the loch ness monster. Really, Wilder, grow up.”
