“As far as I know, I have done nothing to warrant the attention of any higher ups, so you can just turn back around and fuck right off. Grayson is the fuck up, not me.”
“Ya say that like I haven’t seen shirtless men before. I dunno if you’ve got anything special goin’ on here,” she answered, lips pulling into a slight smirk.
“Oh please,” he groused, mildly offended and shrugging off his jacket. “You’ve clearly never seen me shirtless if you’re thinking that.”
“That sounds kind of nice, though? Like… when Ozzy and I hear things about mom and dad in his first life it just… makes sense, which is… a little depressing, honestly. And maybe you’re right? Maybe it’s the outside genes that make everything extra messy. I know my mom’s dad was in the mob, which is why she’s… you know. And you’ve seen my dad.” She didn’t ever have to ask why her sisters were the way they were. The real mystery was why Ozzy was so sweet. “From Eulalia? I don’t think so. And I think she’d be offended that you do think so,” she returned. “Yeah, you may have lucked out in the name department.”
“Well, I mean, you and Oz are pretty normal given everything. Your sisters are a disaster, but at least Casey has someone that care enough to try to push past that for her. Kinda feel bad for Wil though. I don’t think she even knows how to make a friend, much less find anyone willing to get past her issues. And I know your mom has never wanted anything other than your dad. Which is also kind of terrifying because they’re…messy.” It was the nicest way he could think to put it. “If I could convince Mav or Thea, then, yeah, it could be done. Or maybe even Cayden. I mean, he’s her uncle and he’s got some talents that go in that line.”
“Oh, I love your good looks an’ charmin’ smile,” she agreed. “But you’re not the only one I know who’s got those. What else are you bringin’ to the table, Oz?”
“Do I need to take my shirt off? I can totally take my shirt off. Because I’m always bringing that to the table.”
“I don’t think I’d blame her, though. That kid’s been through enough.” She shook her head. “You know, I never have to wonder where my mom and Wil get it from. Grandma’s got some serious crazy in her genes.” It certainly didn’t help that some of the family ended up with equally unstable partners. Her parents were a prime example of that. “Oh, like I couldn’t go harass you myself. Your siblings would totally sell you out. Eulalia would probably sell you out, at least, and she’s got a thing for Case, so she might be willing to help me out. Kat’s full name is a mouthful, too. Remington’s not bad, all considered.”
“Me either and I only know a fraction of what Chance did to him. It’s sort of weird to hear the horror stories and look at who I’ve always known when it comes to him. Sure, he still butchers people, but aside from that, he seems pretty okay? It’s fucking weird. And I don’t think it’s crazy so much as literal bloodlust. It’s why mom’s a merc, I think.” He knew Elise had a damn strong blood lust, but his own took more after the wolf aspects and he was grateful for that. “I could find someone to hide me,” he argued, winching just a little when she pulled out Eulalia as a go to. The girl was too damn psychic for her own good. “True. And then gran’s is Illyria, which sounds more sci-fi than anything.”
