His expression shifted to disdain at the mention of hunters. “They’re just so… pretentious. All of them seem to think they’re doing the right thing.” It was irritating. At least he’d never bothered to pretend his motives were kind. He waved a hand to dismiss her point. “Morals are meant for mortals.”

“And yet we still managed to get baby in the corner, proving Swayze wrong once and for all.” She paused before frowning, more to herself. “Eh, that was a bad one. You’re more like the first kid in Stand by Me. About to get hit by that train.”

“Oh, I’m sure they’ll do their best,” he answered, offering a lazy shrug. But he also knew that mistakes happened and even the gods were flawed. He’d get a chance to get away at some point. “I managed to mostly avoid your kind for plenty of years, but as the saying goes, shit happens.”

“See, that’s the thing about arrogance, it makes you careless in the wrong places. Never should have come to this part of the country. The lack of hunters should have been your first hint, Smalls.” It was still entertaining that he seemed to think he was going to get out of this. “You have been weighed, you have been measured, and you have absolutely been found wanting.”

Andrew hears the door open and he glances through the bars of his cell, not bothering to move from his spot. He sits with his back against the wall and his knees drawn up to his chest and he gives the other a smirk that’s a little too cocky, given his current situation. Sure, he’s grown weaker being trapped here, but he’s just biding his time until he can make an escape. “And whatever have I done to become worthy of your time? I thought you were planning to leave me here to rot.”

“You must have me confused with the merc we hired to catch your ass. I have to say, Thana’s bloodline does a great job with handling little problems.” The harpy smirked in return, talons tapping along the bars. “The Furies are going to have a blast with you, so I wouldn’t get too comfortable.” Kori leaned in a little, enjoying the game. “I pegged you the moment I met you, dude. Rule number one, avoid harpies.”
