In truth, the wolf liked her company despite her general coldness to most people, and the lack of complicated emotions suited them both for different reasons, although Darius was sure that if either of them were a little more invested in the relationship than they liked to admit, it was probably him by a small margin.

“If you’re being paid to entertain me, you need a raise,” she teased in return, punctuating her words with a soft kiss.

It had taken her a long time to accept that he dealt with her out of his own free will and not because he worked for her father, but it had been hard in the start.
