mythsandmonsters:

“I don’t even wanna know what all that entails. Probably better I don’t start opening that can of worms, huh?”

She caught a scent on the breeze that made her feel a little hungry suddenly, but it didn’t immediately register that it was blood, just that it identified as food to her senses, like Chinese take-out or freshly made churros did when she was still human.

“Yeah, probably not. I mean, I’ve heard stories of some of the things they do to the worst sorts and no one needs those nightmares.” Of course, he had been the one dumb enough to ask his grandmother and she had seen no problem in telling him. In detail.

His head cocked to the side a little as he watched her, trying to make sure he monitored her completely so as to avoid accidents. “You okay?”

mythsandmonsters:

Sera didn’t believe Chance would agree to that without some sort of compromise. Sure, the fact he’d brought her there for help in the first place was encouraging, but everything with Chance now was a tactical game of give and take, and he was still adjusting to having to be more flexible in accepting new conditions on his actions.

“If cared about you or that baby, he’ll agree to my terms,” he stated plainly, figuring her thoughts by the look on her face. He wasn’t sure he wanted to know what the deal with her and her warped brother was, but it didn’t really matter. “Call your momma.”

mythsandmonsters:

As expected, Sera was home and washing dishes when she heard her son come home.

“You home for dinner tonight, sweetheart?” she called out, not realising yet that he had company.

“Yeah, Mom. I brought a friend home too if that’s alright?” he yelled back as he took off his jacket.

Sera came to view in the kitchen doorway with a curious look on her face, then smiled when she saw the girl with him.

“That’s fine. You must be Aislynn. It’s nice to finally meet the girl Teddy has told me so much about.” she greeted warmly, noting that the girl seemed to be scared, but from the way she clung to Teddy, it hadn’t been him that had scared her.

She had left her bag in the truck, but she adjusted her jacket a little, giving a sheepish smile when his mother came around the corner. He looked like her and that was the only comfort she could take in a stranger.

With a nod, Aislynn waved awkwardly, still huddled against Teddy. “Hi…” she managed to mumble. On a better day, she would have made a better first impression, would have smiled and shook her hand, done basically anything than cling to the woman’s son. But she was still shaking and he was the only thing there she knew.

After a moment, she glanced up at Teddy, confusion in her eyes. “You talk about me?”

mythsandmonsters:

“If you know anything about Chance, you’ll know how paranoid he can get over things that belong to him, regardless of the facts of the matter.”

She wasn’t trying to be difficult. She just figured she had a better handle on Chance’s mindset than most when it came to things like this, especially since Jeri wasn’t necessarily the only one who might try to keep her away from him.

“Between what he did your ma and what he did to Damien and Sean’s boy, he ain’t welcome on these grounds. The place is a sanctuary, Sera, and I don’t trust that boy to behave himself.”

His tone was as gentle as he could make it but still firm enough to get his point across. “I’d be more ‘n willin’ to let anyone else in your family stay here with you.”

mythsandmonsters:

“That’s fine. Let’s just get you inside and settled first, huh? We can worry about that stuff later.”

Teddy didn’t exactly like the idea of having less time to spend with Aislynn at school, but he was good at thinking on his feet, so he’d find a way to work it to his advantage. After all, without those assholes talking shit about him to her, she’d be more on his side than ever before.

“Okay,” she mumbled, following his lead with no further questions asked.

Her eyes took in the sight of the house, memorized it. It was easier to focus on that than her current emotional state. They always spent time at her house, holed up in her room and sprawled across her bed or her floor, so it was sort of interesting to see his home. And sort of terrifying to think about about meeting his mother.

30 Days of Drabbles::Rayner and Nyla

Note: This is an entirely AU thing because Ray and Nyla do not exist in the same verse. Thank gods for small favors.

“You know, Ny, you really ought to take the stick out of your ass and go on a kill with me. You might learn something. Or enjoy yourself,” he taunted, fingers playing over the blade in his hands. He had been trying since she was sixteen to get his little sister to come out for a hunt with him. It would be easier to have an extra pair of hands for a job.

Nyla threw him a bored look, one slender leg thrown over the arm of the chair, the book in her hands momentarily aside. “As I have stated on more than one occasion, it is never going to happen, Rayner.”

He snorted, eyes rolling. “Even if I tempted you with the fresh blood?”

There was a hungry glint in her eyes at that mention and she had to refrain from licking her lips. Her control was thready as is, the last thing she needed to be around was a fresh kill. They both knew it.

“Just one time. I need an extra pair of hands for this job and I would very much like to get paid.”

“Ask your father,” she replied, her posture nearly rigid.

Ray smirked, he knew he had her in a tight corner. She wasn’t nearly as self controlled as she let people believe. He could smell it on her breath, under the wine. “The mark isn’t going to trust him the way he will you.”

“I am not helping you kill innocent people for money, Rayner. Even Elise doesn’t kill as randomly as you do.”

“Black magic is not my interest.” She had told him this a dozen times at least, but it was getting harder and harder for her to say no. Especially when his targets were seldom human and the idea of fresh blood was enticing enough as is.

He moved from the couch and crossed the room before kneeling beside the chair. Their mother would be furious if she knew he was there and tempting his sister towards the darker side of things, but he didn’t care. Silently, he slipped a small, dark glass vial and uncapped it. It was fae blood, a kill from the other day. A powerful little bugger too.

A whine slipped from Nyla’s lips at the scent, the book falling to the floor as she rolled into a fully upright position and tried to ignore that wonderful scent.

“Come with me, Nyla. Come with me and not only can you have this, you can have more.”

She reached for it, she couldn’t help herself, but Rayner snatched it back too fast and the whine was replaced with a snarl. “Give.”

“Come with me and I will.”

She took several deep breaths, but the scent of the fae blood was all she could focus on. “Fine. Just this once.”

mythsandmonsters:

“Then you’ll have to let Chance be here too because I doubt he’s going to want to risk Jeri being able to get to me again.” she pointed out, knowing that if Jeri knew where she was and that Chance wasn’t there to protect her, he’d try to come get her again and she couldn’t risk the remaining baby’s life to protect herself.

The demon could only snort at that. “I got half a dozen hounds here and a better understandin’ of blood magic than that boy. You really think you wouldn’t be safe here? You really think he would have brought you here if he didn’t trust me to help you?”

Chance’s threat still rang in his ears and he wasn’t entirely sure the boy wouldn’t torch the place after finding out that only one of the babies was still alive.

mythsandmonsters:

“No, don’t be. It’s not your fault,” he reassured her, wondering if he’d be overstepping the mark if he just straight up scooped her up and carried her into the house.

“You can stay as long as you want to, okay? My mom won’t mind making extra food for dinner, and she won’t ask any questions, so you don’t have to think about any of that shit.”

Another nod before she rubbed her cheek against his arm, taking comfort in mixing their scents. It made her feel calmer and she desperately needed that at the moment.

“I can’t stay too late. I still have a curfew and my dads are going to need to know so they can pull me out of that place.”
