mythsandmonsters:

“I can understand that. Seen it happen a lot in mortals and the like, especially if they have a tendency toward self-destruction.” he sympathised with a nod, recounting how many he’d seen come into the Underworld in that state and the effects it had on the ones they left behind.

“Ben says it’s some sort of ptsd, but he kept using terms and shit that made no sense to me.” She had never been the book smart type, but she had street smarts in spades and she figured one was better than none. “He’s working on his masters right now. Smart, that kid. He might hit on you and then I’ll have to tell him I called dibs.” She was teasing, really, but it was never the sort of thing she would rule out down the line.

mythsandmonsters:

“Things have changed. He’s not allowed to hurt anyone now. He promised in blood.” She told him, still a little too woozy and exhausted to really be able to fill in all the gaps for Cord.

“Call my mom. She’ll tell you.”

“You’re gonna have to pardon me for having a hard time believing that when I was the one that kept your momma alive after what he did to her. Ain’t sayin’ you don’t know your life or anything, just going off of personal experience and medical knowledge here.”

“Either way, I’m gonna recommend you stay here a couple nights just to make sure everything is okay.”

mythsandmonsters:

“Yes, it does.”

Her words were just as firm, but it was obvious to her that Cord didn’t know anything about Chance having also made a promise.

“I’ll be taken care of, you don’t have to worry about that. Just tell Chance what I need and he’ll make whatever arrangements are necessary.”

“No promise is worth yours or the baby’s well being and anyone that cares about either will tell you as much.”

He was trying to be soft about it, but he was still trying to stress to her how high risk she was at the moment.

“Last I knew of, Chance wasn’t exactly the caring sort.”

mythsandmonsters:

“I can’t. I made a promise.”

She didn’t elaborate about the deal that was made, but it wasn’t really any of Cord’s business at the end of the day, and she doubted Chance would want to let her out of his sight now anyway if he hadn’t dealt with Jeri in a way that kept him from permanently getting to her.

“You need to be somewhere that you’re going to be taken care of, Sera. Doesn’t matter what promise you made when it comes down to that baby.”

He didn’t want the words to come across firm, but they weren’t as soft as they could have been either. He had noted the way she worded things earlier and it let him know someone, at some point, had taken a child from her.

mythsandmonsters:

Sera was quiet for a long moment, trying to process what it meant, and she completely missed the question.

“Will… will I lose the other one too?” she asked, the words barely a whisper under the weight of the emotions welling up in her in that moment.

“So long as you do not over exert yourself or stress your body, it should be okay. But, that being said, I want you on bed rest. Just to be on the safe side.”

He paused, sighing softly. “I don’t know what you’re involved in or how things got to this point, but it might be better for you to stay with your mom and dad or even your grandmother just to make sure.”

mythsandmonsters:

Sera waited anxiously, hearing the first heartbeat only a slight relief while she held her breath and waited for the second to come just that little bit too long, its meaning not immediately hitting her until Cord confirmed it.

Reluctantly, he set aside the sensor and shut the machine off, trying to find the best way to word things. “I’m sorry…” he finally managed, unsure of what else to to really say to her. “Is there anyone I can call for you?”

mythsandmonsters:

Sera lay still, her body still aching terribly, but at least now the feeling like a blade twisting in her had settled into a dull throb that threatened to leach the last of her energy.

Cord turned the volume up before putting some of that too cold gel on the piece before lifting her shirt enough. The first heartbeat was easy to find, it was a little too frantic, but it was still strong. But he couldn’t find a second beat.

mythsandmonsters:

“Twins…”

Sera had only realised the fact after Chance had pointed it out to her and she’d noticed the second flicker, even though it had seemed less strong than the other.

“Are they going to be okay? It hurts so much.”

“I don’t know,” he answered softly, not wanting to lie to her as he got everything ready. Had she been human, he would have needed to use the other wand, but he had long since learned that immortals tended to have stronger heartbeats early on and they were easier to find with the external.

“I’m gonna figure out where exactly they are and then we’ll go from there.”

mythsandmonsters:

“No.”

The cramping started to ease just a little to let her catch her breath finally, but it was clear that she was feeling incredibly weak from the ordeal.

“It was Jeri. He tried to take me away,” she explained, sounding exhausted. “He tried to grab me… I fell, and then… I tried to stop him and then it started to hurt.”

Once she began to relax, Cord pulled out the ultrasound equipment and began getting everything set up.

“You said babies? Twins or more? Need to know what I’m lookin’ for”

He knew Jericho’s name, knew that was her brother, but he had been under the impression that Jericho was the good son.

mythsandmonsters:

“My babies…” she mumbled, sounding like she was about to pass out. “Please don’t take my babies away.”

If Sera had been there before, she had no memory of it, but that was the last thing on her mind. All she wanted was for the pain to stop and for everything to be alright again.

“I’m trying, kiddo, I’m trying,” he promised, honestly shocked that Chance had brought her straight here. But he wasn’t sure how much he could do. If the medication didn’t kick in… He didn’t want to have to put a girl that had clearly been through too much through that as well.

“Did he do this to you? Did Chance hurt you again?”
