Cam sympathised deeply, knowing what that was like from his own personal experience with it. He was hesitant for a brief moment, considering something.

“You know, I can help you with that, but it’s only a temporary fix. Grief isn’t something any of us can avoid in the long term, but if you want me to, I can take some of the pain away for now.”

Thrasos shook his head at that, the movement slow but lacking hesitation. While he wanted the relief from the pain, he damn sure didn’t feel like he deserved any sort of peace.

“I should have been there…I failed them…”

He nodded and followed her, her taking care of him helping to settle and calm him down almost back to normal, aside from feeling a little raw and vulnerable as he always did after a breakdown.

This sort of moment was something he’d always longed for but had never thought it would ever happen until now.

When he didn’t push her away or try to hide, she finally felt completely at ease. It had always made her ache when he distanced himself in the past and all she wanted to do was be there for him, to show him that she thought he was perfect to her.

“I don’t think the shirt is salvageable,” she told him, giving him a once over before stepping away to get the shower started and warming up.

mythsandmonsters:

“Okay.”

Most of the blood stains had dried by now, making his clothes stiff and stuck to him uncomfortably, which was only now starting to register as a sensory aggravation to him. He hadn’t even realised just how much he’d got in his hair either, his blonde curls matted with it enough that it would a little time and work to detangle and clean it all out.

She took his hand again and guided him towards the bathroom. He didn’t need to be alone right now to start with and it provided a good excuse to be close to him still. Especially without the barrier that clothing caused. Even in the most innocent of moments, she hated not being able to have skin to skin contact with him.

“I’ll help you get it out of your hair.”

foxofthewildhunt:

“Only been on two ‘unts with humans myself.” He looked up from poking around at things with the sticks and saw her reaction. “Wha’s wrong?”

“People aren’t play things,” she muttered, clearly getting more uncomfortable at just how nonchalant he was over the whole ordeal.

mythsandmonsters:

“I’m not good enough for me.” he murmured, stressing that he was trying to hold himself to a higher standard of accountability for his actions than he ever had before.

He wrapped his arms around her and held her tight, burying his face in her hair. She smelled a little different from her mortal lives, but that was to be expected, and it was still familiar enough to him to be a comfort.

Her arms slid around him in return, mirroring him coming naturally to her anymore. It helped that she desired being this close to him at all times. But it did make it harder to go back home.

“Come on, we need to get this blood cleaned up, okay?” she murmured, fully intending to help him get it all out of his hair. The clothes didn’t worry her, they could always get more, but dried blood in hair was an awful feeling.

mythsandmonsters:

His breath was still shuddery, but at least now the tears had stopped enough for him to try to wipe his face successfully before taking the knife from her and mirroring the action, cutting himself.

“I promise I’ll do everything I can to be better and deserve you, even if I still mess up sometimes.”

“You’re already good enough,” she answered, twining her fingers with his before curling against him once more.

She had asked her mom about sealing promises in blood before and had been a little surprised to know that she had done it. It had been the deciding factor for her, really. If it had worked for her parents, surely it would work them too.

mythsandmonsters:

Teddy nodded and nuzzled at her tenderly.

Whenever everything had fallen apart before, it had been Sera that reminded him that he would have to be patient and wait for the right girl who had that darkness in her too for her to understand him. After all, Teddy’s parents’ entire relationship was built on that exact same premise, and even Sera had taken a long time to understand it.

“I’m just so scared,” he admitted, starting to calm down. “I can’t live without you.”

A soft smile touched her lips when he began to calm, relief sweeping through her. It was enough to know she could reach him through the turmoil, that he was beginning to believe her. She knew it would take some time, especially since she had promised twice before not to leave him and she had, accidentally, broken it both times.

Layla took a step back and dug a small pocket knife from her back pocket and cut open her palm before holding her hand out to him.

“You won’t ever have to. I promise. I’m yours, Teddy. I won’t ever leave you again.”

mythsandmonsters:

“Even the part that hurts people?”

It was an honest question. She hadn’t understood that part of him in her previous lives and that had been the catalyst for losing her so many times. He couldn’t bear to make her live with that if she still didn’t understand and love him regardless, despite her assuring him she did.

“If I had a problem with it, I wouldn’t be willing to kiss you while you’ve got someone else’s blood on you,” she pointed out gently, wiping a bit of that blood from his skin.

“I’m not the exact same girl I was the first time we met. I mean, your parents are my grandparents this time around. It makes it easier to accept the darker parts of you when I’ve got some of that same darkness in me, you know?”

mythsandmonsters:

“But I kill people. I killed you! Everything I touch turns to shit and I fucking deserve it.”

The fear was paralyzing to him but he by no means thought he deserved anything less than to suffer for the suffering he’d inflicted on her.

“I can’t forget the way you looked at me the last time you saw me like this. You looked at me like you didn’t know me anymore, and you know what happened after that. I can’t get it out of my head and I never wanna see you look at me like that again. I don’t wanna hurt you again.”

“Stop that! They wouldn’t have brought me back like this and made me remember if you didn’t deserve to keep me. It’s not just the bad stuff I remember, Teddy. You were so good to me the last life and I loved you so much then too. I didn’t mean to get sick, but I had to so I could come back to you forever.”

Her thumb brushed over his cheek as she leaned up to catch his lips once more, trying to silence the storm in his emotions.

“I’m looking at you now and it doesn’t change how I feel. This, right here, is all I want. You are all I want. All of you.”

mythsandmonsters:

He wanted to believe her but he still had a long way to go before he could feel like he deserved it, and that was part of the learning curve.

“This is my last chance,” he mumbled, wiping his face and just making it even more of a mess. “I screw this up, there are no more do-overs. You’ll just hate me forever instead.”

She shook her head at that, the first of her own tears finally spilling over.

“I remember you killing me twice. Felt all the physical pain from both and woke up screaming and I still love you. I still want nothing more than to be with you. There is nothing you could do or say that will make me hate you.”
