Hypnos nodded, all but collapsing as soon as he reached his bed, his entire weight barely enough to make an indentation on its surface.

“It’s been such a long time since I slept in a bed,” he confessed hoarsely, already struggling to keep his eyes open as he recalled the comfortless cell he’d been kept in and the hard floor that had been his only option for trying to rest upon.

Cayden immediately set about getting him tucked in like he used to do for him when he was a child. It was the least he could do at the moment, the only thing that was making him feel useful.

“Sleep. I’ll call Cate and dad and aunt Ava,” he promised, knowing the three people he needed to call first.

“I forgot you were a geezer.” He muttered against Grayson’s lips, eyes half closed, resting a hand on his chest. “You can sit on the side then, at least you wont get tan lines… Can demons get sun burnt, cause that would hurt.” Gilley winced jokingly. He was beginning to relax already, just being near someone and talking to someone about anything was a good start.

“Guess tha’ makes ya a grave robber,” he returned, the mixture of Gilley and the drugs making him feel all light and tingly. “I can, I go’ skin ya know,” he teased, nuzzling at him a little. “I’ jus’ heals a li’le be’er.”

Prompt: Most angels watch over humans from a distance and only intervene when necessary. Yours on the other hand is a helicopter parent.

“You do realize I’m an adult, right?” he grumbled, casting a sideways glare at the man walking beside him. It had been like this for as long as he could remember, really. Wherever he went, “Gavin” followed.

“Nineteen hardly makes you an adult, Kyle,” the angel chided, hands in the pockets of his suit as he kept pace with the boy. “You were almost hit by a car not even ten minutes ago.”

“Okay, one, they were parked and two, you make me want to leap in front of oncoming traffic.”

Gavin rolled his eyes at that. “I would simply save you.”

“Don’t remind. Fuck, don’t you have anything better to do?” It was one thing to have a guardian angel, but another altogether to never get a moment’s peace from one.

“Hmmm, no, not really. You’re my only responsibility.”

Another tired sigh before Kyle kicked at a stone on the ground. “That sounds like the most pathetic life in the world.”

“This from the boy that won’t go back to school to pursue something worthwhile?”

“Don’t you fucking start.”

Prompt: That voice in your head that you believe to be your conscious was actually put there by something afraid of what you might become.

The voice had been there since Starla was little, since the first time she had actually seen a spirit. It hadn’t been her voice, but it sounded sweet and kind, and she had merely accepted it.

Be kind to the dead, they have lost so much already.

It never occurred to her that it could be anyone else’s voice. At least, not until she was in her teens and found out she could make the spirits listen to her. She hadn’t meant to do it, but she had been having a rough day and one spirit in particular wouldn’t leave her alone. She had screamed at him to eat his own fist to shut up and, to her surprise, he had done as she said.

The voice had chided her for it and she had immediately broken down in tears, apologizing to lost soul over and over.

He had forgiven her, but she hadn’t forgiven herself for it.

How could she? She had done something so terribly rude to someone that just needed a little compassion.

The voice in her head had comforted her, told her they all had bad days from time to time, but that taking it out on those that around her would get her nowhere.

Still, the idea had lingered. She wanted to test it, to see what exactly she could make spirits do.

Don’t go down that path, Starla. it leads to nowhere good. That is how Melinoe was driven to insanity, the voice had warned, a touch of panic in its tone.

It was just enough to make the girl stop and listen. She didn’t want to be like that.

Random prompt, any characters: Better Love by Hozier. I know you’ll find some way to still make it tragic.

It had been years since she had woken up to find the space beside her empty and cold, a note resting where his head should have been. Her parents hadn’t liked the situation, but she doubted they had chased him off.

“The boy’s a runner, Eva, he won’t stay,” they had told her, but she had ignored them. What did they know about him anyway? He had promised.

But she was young and when she looked around the room, all of the things Rhodes had brought with him were gone, save for the button down shirt she liked the best. It had been folded carelessly under the note, almost as if he had been in a hurry.

Eva,

Don’t hate me forever, okay? You’ll find better.

-Rhodes

Of course he left no explanation. He had always been one to dodge questions, telling her to just enjoy the moment. But she had loved him, mystery, sad smile, and all.

How could she have been so stupid?

Her fingers were shaking when she crumbled the note in her hands and brought her knees to her chest. It felt like she couldn’t get enough air to fill her lungs, a dull ache working through her.

Why? What had she done wrong?

She would never know that he had stayed moments longer than he would have anywhere else. Would never know that he had brushed her hair from her face while she slept and whispered an apology or that he loved her.

All Evangeline knew was that it had been years since that cold morning and she still ached over it. Over him

And she was still wearing his button down shirt when no else was around to see it.

mythsandmonsters:

“It’s okay. I have a ton more.” he shrugged, not at all bothered that he’d ruined it as he’d done that plenty of times before and didn’t hold much of an attachment to his clothes.

All that mattered to him right now was that this reminded him of all the times he’d seen his mom help clean up his dad and that that had sort of become the template for Teddy’s ideal concept of love.

“We can burn it later then. I’m more worried about those curls,” she teased, helping him strip out of the bloody clothes. It didn’t matter who he had killed or why, not really. Ava had told her that a lot of people in their family ended up going down the murder route at some point or another, it was just something with the keres dna.

Without hesitation, she stripped off her own clothes and stepped into the shower, gently tugging him along with her.
