“It’s alright. Really. I’m flattered, even.”

It was obvious he’d not had much attention like this before and he didn’t really know how to respond to it, but he was a least a little more willing and receptive to noticing it at all than his father was, as shy as it suddenly made him.

“Flattered? Does this mean I get to be like super affectionate at you?” Not that she hadn’t already planned on being as such. It was just who she was. It was, in large part, why her auntie had called her when Cam had shown up all heart broken and lost puppy-ish.

andrew and ari for shits and giggles

  • Who they like better: She’s sort of incapable of like
  • Who they take after more: Andrew hands down

“Don’t worry. Not planning on using up any more of my nine lives anytime soon.”

He hadn’t exactly intended on pushing his luck this time either, but nobody could have predicted someone would try to take him out like that, and Gabriel would be happy to not ever have to experience feeling like his entire body was burning and shutting down while he was still conscious.

“You better not. We’d be pretty lost without you.”

She knew she would be anyway and she sincerely doubted their parents would handle losing either one of them like that very well. Not that it mattered with whomever had tried to take him out. She knew the family was damn good at making threats disappear.

mythsandmonsters:

Gabriel was in no state to argue. He stopped trying to struggle even as Torrie told him not to move, the pain only easing after he’d settled again and taken a few solid breaths.

“I know what it was, Tor.” he pointed out, sighing. “It felt like I was dying.”

“And I needed the same reminders when we were younger,” she countered softly.

It broke her heart to know he had to go through the same agony she had, but it scared her more than anything. She had never realized he had almost solid shifter reaction to silver where she had clearly taken after their father more genetically.

“I just don’t want you hurting yourself more.”

mythsandmonsters:

He looked relieved that she hadn’t gotten hurt too. The last thing he wanted was to know that he’d lost her as well as nearly losing his own life.

Being lay down didn’t make talking any easier, so he tried to move a little just so that he could sit up a bit, but even the slightest effort made the pain cut through the meds and knock his breath out of him, reminding him just how weak and injured he actually was.

Torrie immediately put a hand on his undamaged shoulder to stop him, sighing heavily.

“Lie still, Gabe, or I’ll have Eli strap you down. You got hit with silver and you’re a lot more sensitive to it than I am. You’re almost on par with mom for it. Eli doesn’t want you trying to get up until he’s sure all the silver is out of your system.” Her tone was stern but there was still a softness to it, the worry evident.

mythsandmonsters:

Gabriel made a slight growling sound. He didn’t want anyone fighting over him, especially his mom. He knew she was overprotective, but he just didn’t have the energy to mediate any conflict right now.

“Is she okay though? She was there when…”

He couldn’t be sure Eva hadn’t been injured unless someone outright told him otherwise, but he could barely talk enough to hold much of a conversation to that effect.

“Don’t worry, I’m going to handle mom. I’ll just remind her what happened when dad tried to force Leon out of my life.”

The last thing she wanted for him to get worked up and do more damage to himself. Eli said he wasn’t entirely out of the woods yet and she damn sure wasn’t going to risk that.

“Physically, yeah. She’s shaken up and out of her head worried about you though. I don’t really see her leaving until you go home.”

mythsandmonsters:

“…Don’t feel lucky. Feel like shit.”

The more awake he became, the more aware he was that beneath the heavy sensation was a prominent ache that probably would have hurt to hell if the pain meds in his system hadn’t put a hazy buffer between it and his brain’s ability to process it.

He just about remembered what had happened to him, but his memory beyond getting shot was a fuzzy blur that seemed predominantly made up of pain like he’d never felt before and the feeling like he was dying.

“Is Eva okay?”

“I know. Been there. But you’re alive.”

She smiled softly and smoothed back his hair, fussing over him a little. It was one the perks to being his sister, she could get away with it still. Only on rare occasion, but this was definitely one of them.

“She’s out in the waiting area. Mom came in, saw her curled up in one of the chairs in here and began raising holy hell. So, Eli made them both go outside. Mom wanted her to leave, but she refused.”
