Lola’s smile was more obvious in its warmth and gentleness, the same crookedness it had at the corners of the lips and kindness in the eyes that Angelo had, even though she had more than a passing resemblance to her mother.

Without thought, Talyse reached her free hand up and poked at Lola’s lips, head tipping to the side as she studied the girl’s smile. “Pretty.”

Trent shrugged nonchalantly, conceding the point.

“I suppose it doesn’t help with that tangerine-faced shitgibbon sitting in the White House. Hell, if the security detail protecting him wasn’t tighter than a nuns ass, I might even volunteer to do something about that.”

She smiled wide at that, the image not a terribly pleasant one.

“See? Violence runs in your blood no matter how calm and collected you put yourself out to be. Everyone in this bloodline has a potential for doing awful things.”

She nodded. “Good people. They’ve helped me out a lot in life.” She wouldn’t have survived without them really. “New York, maybe? It’s usually easier to hide out in big cities.” And she’d heard a rumor that Max had gone back there and she was missing the vampire.

An overwhelming enthusiasm took hold of her at the mention of New York. “I live New York! Mostly. Come here with family. Live with lots people,” she babbled, bouncing from one foot to the other like a hyper child.

“I haven’t quite decided yet. Probably going to go visit some old friends before picking a new place to live.” It had been a while since she’d visited the elves she’d first met on earth and they were the closest thing to home that she had.

“Nice friends?” She was still getting used to the concept of friends and she was terribly intrigued with the idea that some people have had friends for so long. “Where go live?”
