“What do you think half the rebellion was about in the first place? Not everyone wanted to follow Lucifer into exile over getting ideas above their station. Some just couldn’t stand the ridiculous double standard of being told to help mortals and then not being allowed to do so when they really needed it. The whole system is fucking bullshit.”

Sapphira could only shrug at that. Truth be told, she had never given it too much thought. After all, everyone seemed to have their own reasons for doing anything and who was she to question them? It wasn’t like her leaving had made much of an impact either way.

“Hi, I’m -” Shea cleared his throat and Harley sighed, rolling her eyes dramatically before offering a hand to Cord, “Amy. I’m Amy.” She puffed her chest out and threw a ‘hah’ look at Shea.

He ran an exasperated hand across his face, yep, this was fine.

It wasn’t her real name, Cord could guess as much. The body language between the two of them was too obvious, but she didn’t press as she shook the child’s hand before straightening up.

Without warning, she snapped her fingers and pointed at the bar before a scruffy and sullen looking man pushed off from the far wall and nodded. “Don’t mind Trigger’s look, he’s grumpy but he’s safe,” she explained, ruffling his hair as he passed without so much as a wave.

“Now, let’s get you two somethin’ to eat. Y’all look dead on yer feet.”

“Go away. You have better stuff to be doing than harassing me, I’m sure.” He didn’t want to deal with her or see any more of her future. What he’d already witnessed was plenty.

“Oh sure. If it wasn’t so close to the full moon, I’d go get fucked, but such is life. That makes you the most interesting thing to poke at right now.” She hated the Tiernach didn’t trust her around the full moon, but she understood at the same time.
