“Nah, some things I quite like doing for free.” he purred, returning the kiss.

Even if he didn’t have feelings for her, seeing her soften up like this was all the reward he needed when he knew this wasn’t a side of her that anyone else had the privilege of witnessing.

“So long as I am near the top of that list,” she stated, tone matter-of-fact but eyes still bright with laughter.

She returned her head to his shoulder and pulled his arm around her. He was always so much warmer than she was and, right now, she needed that warmth. It made it easier to relax when her brain was chaotic, especially when combined with the sounds of his breathing and heartbeat.

“Thank you…”

foxofthewildhunt:

Gilley was relieved to say the least, not one for real talk or any thing close to dealing with things, but he felt the need to offer. “Think I could stand to lose track a bit.” He was trying to be suggestive, but the goofy grin probably didn’t sell it, neither did the sudden wide eyed realization that he might’ve been too forward. “I uhm, i mean, I mean I’m here. For a while and we don’t, we don’t need to dwell on anything or talk or do anything really, but we really don’t need to worry about time because i’m free, I can stay here for as long as you want, or not, I don’t mind.”

Grayson laughed and cut him off with a kiss, not wanting to let him get inside his own head too much. “Yer cu’e when ya ramble, bu’ ya ou’a know by now tha’ I like bein’ roun’ ya. Woul’ o’ ne’er tol’ ya ‘bou’ this place if I di’n’,” he assured him before sitting up and digging a small bag out from between his mattress and boxspring. “I do think ya could use a li’le weed though ta calm yer brain.”

The knock startled Jayne, his anxiety spiking again momentarily as his hands stilled in the wolfs fur.

Being told not to freak had the exact opposite effect, making it sound like whoever had knocked wouldn’t exactly be pleased to see a stranger there, and it made Jayne recoil and make himself smaller again on reflex.

Tal lifted her head, sniffed the air a bit and then settled back against Jayne, clearly not concerned over who she smelled.

“Sorry, I forgot to check in and she obviously can’t check in like that,” she muttered, unlocking the door and sighing with relief at the sight of Xander. At least he wouldn’t lecture.

“You didn’t check in. Your mom was getting antsy. You know the rules, Lux,” he told her gently, turning to start on Talyse when he noticed the boy. “Oh. You found someone.” He looked like Stryker, but he didn’t say it. After all, he was a doppleganger himself and it was a touch annoying. “Hello. I do hope Lux wasn’t too much of a hassle. Her interpersonal skills are touch lacking. I’m Xander.”

raisedinthesmoke:

Of course Jayne didn’t take the comment literally, especially as he’d forgotten for the moment about the earlier incident and that Lux had wings.

Instead, he figured it was just like how his mom told him that they used to use dogs as therapy animals for people who struggled with their emotions or had the same sort of panic disorders Jayne had become all too familiar with since the war. There wasn’t much by way of diagnostic medicine and support in that field anymore, but Jayne scraped by as best he could, even if it meant scavenging pain medication on occasion to try to dull the noise in his head for a little while.

“Don’t mind me if I fall asleep. Talyse will be too happy to keep you company. She likes new people,” Lux mumbled, completely forgetting that she hadn’t bothered to check in.

It wasn’t until there was a knock between the seals did she startle awake entirely, swearing under her breath. “Shit, don’t freak, I think it’s one of my cousins. I forgot to check in and so did the pup,” she groaned, stumbling to her feet to get the door.

raisedinthesmoke:

Jayne nodded a vague thanks, barely looking up from the contented animal in his lap.

Even through the sturdy layers of clothing he wore, he could feel the heat Talyse emanated and she was, as far as his observation, just as toasty as Lux had implied, which just added to the comfort of stoking her.

“If you have nightmares, she can help with that too.” She had seen it before, most survivors had them. With Tal’s bloodline, it was easy for her to influence the dreams, to take the nightmares into herself.

foxofthewildhunt:

“It’s okay, I didn’t exactly keep in touch either, and you have a reason. I.“ He couldn’t think of a nice way to say chickened out and kept with what he knew, so he just left it. He lightly kissed the tip of Grayson’s nose. “If you want to talk about any of that, we can.”

“Eh, no reason ta go wi’ tha’ sob show,” he replied, not one to gold grudges or keep to regrets. “We ain’ human, we don’ keep track o’ time the same way. I don’ keep track o’ i’ all.”

foxofthewildhunt:

“Are you calling me twitchy then?” He teased, but it was undercut by the content little sigh and impossible to hold back smile. “I misssed you, too.”  He rested his forehead against Grayson’s and pulled him closer. “A lot.”

“Ya know ya are,” he teased, the fogginess taking on a content little glow. He was always more affectionate when he was strung out. “Sorry I los’ track o’ the years. ‘Tween the kid, work, an’, well…” His bad habits was the next thing he was going to list, but he figured there was no point in actually pointing out the obvious.

babyitsmagic:

“I take it he has had a long time to perfect his trade?” he guessed. This seemed like something someone would need a few decades to figure out, at least.

“To say the very least. It is also far safer than getting blood from a butcher or risking getting caught hunting large animals this close to hunting season.”

foxofthewildhunt:

He barely got time to react, sighing into the kiss and looking a bit lost when Grayson flopped back. “I’m not sour, Im, no, nope, it’s not important. And yeah, I met him, he thinks I’m high but he seems really nice.” He sat on the side of the bed, chewing on his lip. “Screw it.” He basically bounced over to kiss Grayson. He didn’t come this far to not act.

“He has ta deal wi’ me, wha’ else is supposed ta think? I ge’ twitchy when I do too much coke.” He quick to wrap his arms around Gilley, only too happy to kiss him back. “Missed ya.”

babyitsmagic:

He stared at it a little longer before giving in and taking a sip. He frowned at it slightly before looking back at her. “Admittedly better than deer blood with wine. What is it?”

“Werewolf,” she answered with a smirk. “My father is very good at the business he runs.”
