He couldn’t honestly answer that question. Sure, he’d made attempts to sleep occasionally, but it was hardly restful, and it showed in the way he looked a little thinner and more unkempt than even the last time they’d seen each other.
“My uncle is giving me time off from my duties, so, I mean, I could help you get some sleep,” she offered. Truth be told, she had been stressing over his situation a little too much and it was beginning to show.
It was always easy for her to find him, it just wasn’t easy to get time off from her duties. Still, the moment Bridget had a moment of free time, she was simply appearing in front of him, a smile on her lips.
He let out a sigh. “I know you’re right but that doesn’t mean I have to like it.”
“Or she could just be like myself and not trust anyone.” At least when it came to work, Elise didn’t trust others and it was beginning to annoy her that she was crossing paths with more and more people when she was on a job.
“Thank god it didn’t end with her and Izzy trying to be together,” he said, more than a little horrified by the idea of Izzy even trying something like that. He was certain it couldn’t end well.
“I don’t think she would have gone for that idea, honestly. She didn’t like Izzy because she saw some sort of future, she liked him because he was fun when she was at her most manic,” she explained, shrugging a little. “Though, he was good to her the entire pregnancy.”
“I’m giving you full permission to kick my ass if I ever go MIA for that long. Or even for half that long. It’s ridiculous.” And he knew it was entirely possible, which only made it worse. “Well look at you, Kicking med school’s ass. Think you’ll survive that final year?”
“Hell no, I’ll leave that for aunt Ava. Epiales is still whining about the beating she gave him and that shit was before I was even born,” he replied with a laugh. In truth, Leland hoped to never get on his aunt’s bad side like that. “Eli thinks I shouldn’t have any problems, so that’s sort of reassuring.”
“You know, Agent Watson still doesn’t trust me? Honestly, I’m a little offended by it at this point. And I know I shouldn’t be, but I’m not sure I could be more loyal if I tried so I’m just not sure what to do at this point.”
“There’s such a thing as being too trustworthy and too loyal. Looks suspicious and like you don’t have any thoughts of your own.”
