He didn’t really know what the difference was between the option she’d given him, other than it was probably a flavour thing, so he went for the safe option of the venison, figuring that just plain meat was easiest for now.

Still, almost anything was better than eating what was more or less dog food out of a metal bowl that was rarely cleaned.

She handed him the entire pack before returning to her gummies. If he liked the jerky, it wouldn’t be hard to get him more of it. Angelo could even do it himself because she knew he was more than welcome on pack grounds. 

“How are you liking it with Manson and Angelo so far?”

“You got any good memories of her?” she offered, trying to find some little sliver of positivity to get him to hold on to until he found his way up from complete rock bottom, and if she could get him to at least remember something nice, it might take the edge of things until he sobered up.

He gave a shrug before scratching the back of his head. He had some, sure, but not many. She had never really been around too much, mostly just enough to teach him how to handle the trickster shit and holidays. For someone with such fucked up parents, it was a small miracle that Chayton was even remotely adjusted.

His grip tightened once more and he slammed Robert back against the wall. “Why do you insist on being so stubborn and insubordinate? Do you have a death wish? Are you trying to provoke me? I don’t like killing demons, you know. It’s a waste. But you’re no good to me if you can’t follow orders.”

He was at the point where he wasn’t entirely sure he cared anymore. He would have said something else, pushed his luck further, but the hand at his throat made it difficult to do more than growl at him.
