She winced at that, unable to stop the reaction. “That doesn’t make it okay, ya know. Are ya sure I can’t do anythin’ else to help ya out?” She dug a pen out of her purse and scribbled her number onto a napkin, sliding it over to him. “Ya don’t have to take that, but who knows. It might come in handy.”
“I ain’t a charity case.” He eyed the napkin suspiciously, but he made no move to touch it. He didn’t have a phone or any cash, so what good would a number do him anyway?
