“Only if I tell him you made them.”

Sera wasn’t above lying to Az and blaming Jeri for them. There was already enough bad blood there and Kellen would back his mother up if she mentioned that Jeri had been drugging her for years.

“So as long as you don’t do anything else to provoke him and let me do the talking, I’m pretty sure nobody else needs to get hurt tonight.”

He was silent for a moment, tracing one of the many bruises along her collar while he thought. He wasn’t used to giving up control, but she was bound to him in a manner that forbid her betraying him. It wasn’t an ideal, but it was a compromise in a sense.

“You may try.”

mythsandmonsters:

A shiver ran through her at the touch, but it wasn’t nearly as unpleasant as it used to be, Sera’s understanding of things far clearer now.

“She could have if she was dumb enough to believe you wouldn’t try to gut me if he tried, but we both know that she’s the only thing stopping either you or Dad doing something fucking stupid. She’s here on damage limitation.”

“What would gutting you accomplish?” He would have made her do it herself, just to prove that he could, but he saw no point in stating that.

“Even with her in tow, your father is still likely to do something stupid when he sees the lovely marks I’ve left on you.”

mythsandmonsters:

She caught the little shift in his smirk and rolled her eyes.

“She’s not coming for you. I’m the bargaining chip here, remember? Jeri hasn’t let me see either of them in years, so of course Mom is gonna want to come find me.”

Sera knew she risked him getting rough with her for popping his little bubble but she was trying to keep him focused on reality so they could maybe negotiate a way to work things out without any bloodshed.

“And she could have easily let him come alone and just take you like he would have wanted,” he pointed out, giving her hair a slight tug so he could trace his fingers over her throat delicately. The threat was implied, a quiet warning, but he didn’t hurt her. It would be counterproductive at the moment.

mythsandmonsters:

“If she wasn’t with him, he’d be here already.” She pointed out, knowing that if Az was coming alone, he wouldn’t waste time driving.

“Besides, Mom wouldn’t let him come here without her. She knows she still has some leverage with you, whether he likes it or not.”

“Which means she gave him no choice in the matter.”

It only made his smirk a little more arrogant. He had hoped that she would come, but he hadn’t been too certain. Not after the last time he ad seen her. But, in his mind, it meant that she didn’t hate him, still couldn’t hate him, even after everything.

mythsandmonsters:

“I know. It’s just…”

She came away from the window and curled up beside him, letting out a shuddered sigh as she leaned her head on his shoulder.

“I just don’t want them to come here and start attacking you without bothering to see that I’m okay. I’m tired of being treated like I’m just some broken thing to be argued over and treated like my thoughts and feelings don’t matter because they don’t trust me to think for myself.”

“Do you really think I would let them take you away again?”

He had never been good at letting go of what was his and the fact that Sera had learned to play his games had only cemented the idea for him. Even without the blood bond, he wouldn’t give her up without a fight.

“If mother is tagging along, there is less risk of a fight. Although, I hardly see your father bringing her,” he mused, fingers playing through her hair.

At first, Sera thought the odd crawling, prickling sensation in her skin was just nervousness and worry, but as time passed, she was becoming more certain the growing restlessness she felt was tied to the tracking spell that had been put upon her when she’d been in an induced coma, and she was bound by blood to tell Chance.

“Jeri would have told someone by now. I think they’re coming. I can feel it.”

Chance could only smirk at that, his body completely relaxed as he sprawled across the couch. He had picked this place in particular, knowing it was an unpleasant one for practically everyone in the family and just obvious enough that most wouldn’t think to check there first.

“It isn’t as if we’ve been hiding, Princess,” he murmured, gesturing her to come sit with him.

mythsandmonsters:

“Maybe best to get the harder part out the way first? Sort of a ‘ripping off the band-aid’ kind of deal? Not sure I could really just relax until all that’s out the way, and I don’t think I’m probably gonna sleep a whole lot for at least a few nights anyway.”

“Ain’t sure I’d call meetin’ Ark the harder part. He’s sort of like an old hippie at heart…but wears a suit with no shoes.” It was an odd mix of semi-professional and homeless chic that she still wasn’t sure how the alpha managed to pull off.

mythsandmonsters:

“Good.” Teddy thought to himself, finally relaxing and settling down to sleep.

Sure, his mom would be worried when she finally saw the state he was in, but Teddy didn’t care about that right now, even if the school called home and told her. His phone hadn’t rung yet though, so he’d deal with that only when he had to.

After a while, she got up and stretched out after making sure he was okay. As quietly as she could, she crept out to the kitchen, beyond hungry. She didn’t expect him to really be in any state to be getting up anytime soon.

mythsandmonsters:

“Alright, alright. Message received.” He grumbled playfully, closing his eyes and pretending to sleep.

“But I got your word now, so no takesies backsides.”

She smoothed back his hair one last time before settling back down on the ground. She wanted to make sure he was comfortable and it was easier that way.

“I had no intentions of backing out.”
