It was reassuring that Jeri couldn’t just show up at either place and it helped set Sera’s mind at ease.
The tension from the atmosphere had pretty much disappeared, even Azrael’s anger fizzling out now that there was officially no reason for him to be afraid for Sera. Of course, he still worried, but he was also impressed that she’d somehow found the strength to learn some kind of control over Chance, at least enough to orchestrate the neutralisation of him as a threat to her and the family.
“And if you so much as even consider hurting Sera again, I will personally see to it that you suffer far worse than chaining in the Underworld.” the angel stated to his stepson, despite the fact Chance was now bound by blood not to harm her.
“No excuses, you take care of my daughter as agreed or your mother won’t protect you next time. Do I make myself clear, Chance?”
Chance rolled his eyes, clearly not too thrilled with Az thinking he had a say in anything that went on here. Instead of answering, he gave Sera a pointed look, making it clear that she should handle that before he said something they would all end up regretting.
The first words on the tip of his tongue would start a fight. The phrase “like you were doing such a great job letting your son drug her into oblivion” wasn’t what anyone needed to hear right now.
Brittia rested a hand on Az’s shoulder, trying to keep him pacified in case Chance did open his mouth. She knew her son well enough to know starting a fight was still in his nature.
