It had worked between them already, so Sera had been working on the bigger picture ever since she realised she could shift the balance so long as Chance still felt like he was in control.
“Since we made a blood pact and I have to do as you say, if they tried to lock you up again, you’d bind me to releasing you, which would, lets be honest here, result in me being chained in your place, and Mom and Dad wouldn’t want that, so they’d have to at least listen if we proposed a compromise that prevents any of that happening at all.”
His expression was blank, but the slowness in his blink was enough of a tell on his shock. He had not been expecting that answer from her. She was right, though, at least in part. But he was willing to let her believe he would leave her in those chains in his place instead of sacrificing someone with less blood on their hands. It worked in his favor this way.
“That is correct. And they are a touch more willing to listen to you over me.” It was more than a touch, they both knew that, but he wasn’t changing the wording.
“How close are they?”
