“You and me both,” he answered back with a slightly bitter smile, that just barely betrayed the depth of how lost in himself he was feeling lately.

“Grab anything. If I don’t like the first one, we can try the next one, and then the next and so on until we find something that works.”

“Then I guess we can figure you out together.”

She moved into the room, an armful of movies barely staying put as she dropped down to the ground in the least graceful manner a shifter could pull off. “Oooh, we could start with Men In Black!”

👀 Arcadia, do you think it’s more than just pack instinct pulling you to Vaughn, or is it just because you’ve both been lonely for so long that you’re clinging to the first bit of affection that came both your ways?

“I don’t know what it is but he is not the first person to show me any sort of affection since I got here, so I don’t think it’s the second thing you’re hinting at. But I also don’t feel like I need the scent of anyone else all over my skin the same I do with him either.”

Bailey still looked borderline terrified at the knowledge that they were going to have to cut into him to remove the implant, but Zeke already picked up on the kid’s anxiety and had set about trying to reassure him.

Jeff watched the scene for a moment before trying to add on something more comforting. “You don’t have to be alone for it, kid. Zeke can be there and I can bring your sister to sit with you too if you want.”

mythsandmonsters:

“Peaceful, maybe? Some things are better when you’re not doing it on your own though, and not all the batteries in the world’ll change that fact,” he smirked, almost winking to emphasise what he was referring to, not that he thought she wouldn’t get what he meant, but it was just a reflexive little quirk of his mannerisms.

“Yeah, well, batteries won’t break your heart and I’ve always been more concerned with keeping you and the others out of trouble and that is still a full time job,” she shot back, refusing to break eye contact first or blush.

Zeke clearly had no idea who he might be referring to with that comment, but that wasn’t exactly an important detail right now, so he didn’t ask any further about it. It was a little puzzling though since as far as Zeke knew, anyone who tried to turn against the family usually ended up dead, or at least blackballed without any protection.

“This was before you were born.” There was no point in telling the kid that those two had longer lifespans than he would ever have, so it gave me a perfect chance not to put a time frame on the information.

Jeff did, however, shoot Cadi a bit of a look for not telling him that the kid was biologically from that family.

“I mean, I figured, but still,” Zeke answered, unable to remove the perplexed look on his face for the moment. Whoever was taking the pups and killing their handlers was clearly far more prepared for doing so than he first anticipated, and he didn’t know a whole lot of people outside the family who would have all possibilities covered like that.

She touched over where it had been again like the gesture was some sort of security. It made her feel safer to remind herself that it really was gone. “I should..I should go home before they start to worry about me..”

mythsandmonsters:

“Promise.”

Quinn dreaded what it was Sable might tell him, but he’d listen if she needed to get something off her chest and he’d keep it secret if she didn’t want anyone else to know, so he braced himself to hear something terrible.

“I think…I think I died a couple times before I started getting better,” she mumbled, sounding completely lost. “It’s fuzzy, but I remember watching Eli try to restart my heart and there was a sad man there. I don’t think anyone else there saw him though. I don’t know who he was but kept telling me no until my heart started up again.”

Those dreams made her wake up in tears and she couldn’t figure out why but Cadi worried less over those ones so she hadn’t told anyone about them.

As soon as they were in the bedroom, Cam had kicked the door shut and resumed pawing eagerly at Tass, whining a little at the clothing still getting in the way as he eased him back toward the bed.

Tass caught on quickly and practically ripped his own shirt off before making quick work of ridding Cam of his. He let him take the lead, pulling down down with him when he fell to the bed, fingers and lips mapping over Cam’s skin like it was the first time he had ever been allowed to touch anything.
