mythsandmonsters:

“Probably.”

Isaac probably would have dealt the younger male a bit of a beating himself if he didn’t know that Anya was more than capable of taking care of herself in that department, but he knew she’d have probably bit him too for trying to fight her battles for her.

“Tear a chunk off of one out of line pup and they all back off. It’s peaceful.”

She did feel a little lonely, but she damn sure wasn’t about to admit it. She was too stubborn and prideful to admit to anything she felt was a sign of weakness. It didn’t matter if Isaac wouldn’t pity her, she just wasn’t going to say it.

mythsandmonsters:

“‘Kay…” he mumbled, planting his face firmly in the crook of her neck again so that all his senses filled with her. He’d never had any sort of quiet peace like this before and it made him realise just how exhausting it was to constantly be hyperalert and waiting for the next moment he’d have to fight for his survival.

She alternated between tracing over his skin was gentle fingertips and running her fingers through his hair, eyes closed as she just enjoyed him. He had been right, she was never going to hear the end of it from Genesis after this one.

mythsandmonsters:

“I know you bit him. I saw the mark. Fourteen stitches he needed. Savage!”

Isaac did wonder if his sister would ever find someone who she did like, but he wasn’t as bad as their parents were with their clucking over when they were going to have grandchildren to spoil.

“He deserved worse.”

It had been one of the younger males and he had gotten a little handsy even after she had told him to fuck off. The moment he had made an attempt to mark her, she had tore into him. The fact that he had needed stitched from her human teeth had taught him his lesson well enough though and Anya still didn’t feel bad.

Vaughn nodded but stayed silent, resuming nuzzling Cadi to help get him back out of the sombre mood he’d slipped into. He’d let her go if the pups weren’t okay with it, but if they were, he was more than happy to spend the entire night curled up with her and just ignore everything else in the world for a while.

“I’ll call the pups in a bit to let them know,” she said softly, curling against him and focusing on the sound of his heart beating and the rhythm of his breathing. All she could think was that this much be what home was supposed to feel like.

mythsandmonsters:

“Yeah, yeah, say what you want, but I don’t exactly see anyone sniffing around you either, sweet cheeks.”

He didn’t mind letting his sister roast him a bit if it meant she wasn’t worrying about what he might be getting himself into, but he’d always get in a few shots of his own just because that’s how they’d always been.

“Because I bit the last one hard enough to send him running with his tail tucked between his legs.”

She had a bit of a reputation and had put an end to every attempt made by any of the other pack members to court her. Most of them had thought they could win her over by trying to get her to submit and she had shown them all that she was not submissive to anyone.

mythsandmonsters:

Vaughn appreciated the closeness, but he knew it wasn’t comfortable for Cadi, so he rolled onto his side and pulled her close again so they were entwined still, but side by side.

He went quiet for a little while, just wanting to let it sink in that he really did have them now and that he deserved them, and even if Genesis wasn’t his kid, he’d sure as hell protect her and the other pups like they were, so maybe it wasn’t so bad that the little girl had latched on to them both the way she had.

Once the position was changed, Cadi was wrapping around him a way that created as much physical contact as possible. For the first time in her life, she had everything she had wanted and practically everything she had never thought she would get the opportunity to have.

“Do you want me to stay here with you tonight?” She would just have to call and let Chance know that she wasn’t coming home as well as talk to Sable and the twins so they didn’t worry.

mythsandmonsters:

Isaac had to catch himself before he said something stupid, knowing that Anya would be all the more pissed at him if he told her the truth.

“Or maybe it would just be awkward to be sat here with girls crawling all over me while my sister is around?”

“When has that ever mattered with our kind? No one is even pretending not to be checking you out.”

She was grinning now, her earlier upset pushed to the back of her mind for the moment. It was more fun to tease him than it was to scold him.

mythsandmonsters:

“Okay.”

It hadn’t really been Jeff that had saved his life overall. He’d just been the one who’d taken him out of the place it would have ended. It took a stubborn little pup to drag him to a place where he could find something he wanted to live for, and he was terrified of even the thought of losing that again.

Vaughn had to sigh and swallow back the sudden feeling of tears, chewing his lip until he got some semblance of a hold on it.

“And if anyone ever tries to take you or any of this away from me, I’ll kill them or die trying, because I know I wouldn’t survive if I had to go back to that.”

She leaned up and kissed him softly before resting her forehead to his. Given the angle, it wasn’t physically comfortable, but she didn’t care. It was important.

“No one is going to take me away and I know they wouldn’t be able to try taking Genesis from you either. You have us, okay? Salem and Sable too even if they are a lot shyer.”

It didn’t matter who was related to who or how, they were a family now and she wasn’t letting go of that either.

In all honesty, Kelly did feel a little overwhelmed by everything, though it wasn’t nearly as bad as the feeling he was losing his mind before he knew why he felt the way he did. Instead, now, it was just a relief to have answers, even if they came with a whole slew of new questions and things to experience.

He took a moment to step outside onto the porch just for a quick breath of fresh air, night having almost completely moved in now and bringing it a pleasant coolness to the air that felt almost crisp and refreshing after the stifling emotions of the last couple of weeks. For the first time, he felt like he might actually feel better about staying, things suddenly settling into place for him.

After the food was reheated, on the stove, Arkos went to find Kelly outside. There was a hesitation to his movements before he finally swallowed his pride and wrapped his arms around the younger male’s waist. They both needed the closeness, he knew that.

“Food’s done,” he murmured as he laid his cheek against the back of Kelly’s shoulder.
