mythsandmonsters:

Her reactions were getting Vaughn a touch flustered, his breathing settling into heated, panting rhythm as he lost himself in Cadi’s scent and the feel of her beneath him, barely even aware that the friction between them as he carved his hips against hers was only adding to his feverishness.

Her skin felt heated, a flush staining her cheeks and neck. One ankle hooked around his legs as she tried to pull him closer, her lips gracing every inch of his skin that she could possibly reach from the given angle.

mythsandmonsters:

“She don’t even know where I am right now. Do you really think I’d be stupid enough to lead her or any of her family here? Even if they came over state lines, they couldn’t get this far up the Bay even if they brought the whole clan. That’s why the pack settled here in the first place. She’s got information we need. I’ll cut her loose once I’ve got it out of her.”

“Carson’s pack alpha said the same thing and they slaughtered them all, Isaac. And what information could possibly be worth losing your life over? If she’s a kid, as you put it, what makes you think they would trust her with anything serious?”

mythsandmonsters:

Vaughn couldn’t place why, but he felt a little lightheaded, the feeling somewhat like that of being pleasantly drunk and a little giddy, and he liked it. It wasn’t really the same sort of feeling he’d gotten when he killed his handler, but it had similarities in the sense of giving in to something instinctive instead of conscious thought.

He trailed little kisses along the curve of her throat before getting a touch more bold and grazing his teeth over the spot, though he didn’t bite down, as much as he found himself wanting to.

Slowly, Cadi pulled her wrists free of his hands but only to twine their fingers together. She had been getting more comfortable around the family and everyone else, but this was different. It had a feeling of peace to it, but it was deeper than that, something even she didn’t have words for.

The feel of teeth had her tilting her head back, giving him a better line of skin. She didn’t know what she wanted, couldn’t place the need, but it was there, swimming just below the surface.

mythsandmonsters:

“She’s a kid, Anya. I’d be almost insulted they’d think she could even take me down on her own if it weren’t so damn funny. Besides, her hearts not in it. I could smell it on her the first day I caught on to her tracking me, and if her family knows that about her, that means they’re expecting me to kill her anyway, and that would be suicide.”

“You sound as if you’re starting to fall for this girl. Are you trying to get us all killed? Cut the girl loose, Isaac, before it comes back to bite us all in the ass. There is no good that come of this and you know it. She’s a Mahlendorf for fucks sake.”

mythsandmonsters:

Hearing her laugh was infectious and it had him grinning broad enough it hurt his face a little from being so unused to that particular expression. When she leaned up to kiss him, he teasingly pulled away just out of reach a couple of times before kissing her hard, then nuzzling up under her jaw to press his face against her throat with a soft growl.

Something in his smile made her heart beat a little faster. It was the first time she had seen him with that look and she had to admit, it looked good on him. Of course, it wasn’t enough to keep Cadi from whining whenever he pulled just out of reach, a small pout on her lips before he finally kissed her again.

The way he growled against her skin made her shiver and she nuzzled him back, enjoying the closeness. For once in her life, she wasn’t even worried about the scar that spanned her lower stomach.

mythsandmonsters:

“I guess we could try?” he muttered, still clearly doubtful, but Gwen was being nice to him and making an effort, so he’d feel like he was being rude if he didn’t humour her attempts just a little at least.

“How about you pick something to do, I’ll try it and then see what happens?” he asked, forcing himself to relax a bit and make a compromise that didn’t involve just sitting there in the awkward conversation he felt like they were having right now.

“We have some action movies somewhere I think,” she stated, slipping from the chair and hopping off into the next room. She seldom walked normal, always having a little spring or skip in her step.

Her head poked back into the room, the smile still firmly in place. “Sorry, I’m trying to think of what you might like but I know basically nothing about you.”

mythsandmonsters:

It didn’t feel right to Quinn to tell Sable that one of the things he’d been forced to do was the exact same thing they would have eventually made her do, especially when the ones he’d had to track included two of his own siblings after they escaped their handlers. Two who he knew with absolute certainty hadn’t survived for much longer after.

“I’m glad Jeff got you out before anything like that happened to you. I just wish he could have found you before you got hurt at all.”

“If I tell you something, can you promise not to tell Cadi? She’ll just be upset if she knows,” she mumbled, glancing over at her sister and being glad that she wasn’t eavesdropping.

It wasn’t just what had been done to Sable that had been haunting her dreams and she wasn’t entirely sure which was worse; the nightmares or the other ones.

mythsandmonsters:

“Mahlendorf.”

Zeke wouldn’t be surprised if Jeff knew the family name. Of all the hunting clans in the US, the Mahlendorfs were among the most notorious and widespread, having at least one contingent of hunters in more than half of the states at any given time. The head of the entire clan though was Aleister Mahlendorf, who just so happened to be Zeke’s father and almost as much of an overbearing, abusive piece of shit to his own kids as he was to the creatures they hunted.

He nodded, not at all surprised. He had narrowed it down to three, but they had been the front runner. Jeff never figured the other two would willingly let a shifter live for any reason.

“Know a couple from that clan that switched sides,” but he gave no other detail. The wolf was in the same pack his kids spent time with and the witch had been adopted by friends of the family that had saved his father’s life once. It was worth keeping his mouth shut on the details.

mythsandmonsters:

That in itself was a surprise. The the best of Zeke’s knowledge, those implants were damn near impossible to remove unless it was by someone who had surgical training and somehow had a way to deactivate them that didn’t involve having to go to his father to authorise it through a master code.

“Don’t look so surprised, it took more than one person to remove it.” She had been conscious through the entire procedure to make sure she didn’t get sick. It had hurt like hell, but it was a pain she clung to.

mythsandmonsters:

All Zeke could do was nod along in agreement, some of the information getting lost on him at first, but only because of the sheer amount of it and the fact he was still in shock with regards to the earlier revelations.

Most of it sounded like straightforward common sense anyway though, so it wouldn’t be that hard to arrange and set in motion.

“We’re better off driving to the hospital, I’ve got people on standby to take you all to my grandparents’ after, but we need to get those implants out tonight.”

He wasn’t leaving room for argument as he grabbed his car keys, not that he drove often, and tossed them to Andy.
