“Wouldn’t surprise me.”
Isaac let out a faint grumble as he got comfortable before falling silent again, his breathing in a relaxed rhythm, but one that showed he was beginning to feel tired. He didn’t look much like an old man, but he certainly felt it at times, especially since he’d been brought back like there was a scar on his soul that was taking much more of his energy and far longer to heal than any of his physical injuries.
Anya knew he was tired and it made her ache around the edges a little more. Had she known bringing him back would be this exhausting, she might have reconsidered. Or, at least, that’s what she told herself some night to not feel quite so selfish. There hadn’t really been too many risks too great to make her not want him back.
Her head rested against his shoulder and she let him have the quiet. She’d know when it was time to get him home, but for now, he needed this.
