“I don’t think changing schools would help much. I never really fit in all that well to begin with.” It was hard bonding with normal humans when she hide her favorite parts of herself. It was part of what had drawn her to Teddy in the first place. She liked that she didn’t have to pretend with him. “But I think I would start feeling caged if I was stuck at home all the time too.”

“Fitting in with assholes is overrated anyway. At least you’ve got your brother?” Chase wasn’t her sibling, but she knew having him around when she was younger had been good for her, even if he was a dick. “Yeah, I can see that. Might be a little too much family togetherness. Any other ideas? Because I’m running out of suggestions.”

“But how long before they start targeting him because his sister is dating the school freak?” It was stressing her out enough for her eyes to keep flickering from blue to chartreuse but she never noticed. “Just let me drop out and get my GED?”

As sweet as the sentiment was, it brought up a small twinge of sadness in Jayne, a reminder that he was mortal and Xander was anything but, so it rendered his initial request moot, since if he was Xander’s light, then there would come a day when that light would be taken regardless.

His heart sunk a little when he caught the look on Jayne’s face and he moved forward, touching his cheek softly. “Hey, don’t, okay? Don’t start letting your thoughts go there,” he murmured, practically reading the other’s thoughts because he had been dealing with them himself.

Callista pulled up her sunglasses, eyes seeming to search there surroundings as she tilted her head, hoping for more clues about their surroundings. “My bad.” She shrugged, the casual regret her only form of apology. “Sometimes it’s still difficult to tell how many people are around. But you have caught my interest.”

“Lady, you’re practically in the middle of the street,” he countered, glaring at her. He didn’t really like the fact that he had caught anyone’s interest, not when he wasn’t technically supposed to be there. But, here he was, trailing his ex to make sure she was safe. “Find someone else’s life to risk.”

“I never ask permission to kiss you.” Rory pointed out with a raised brow. If Dev wanted to play this game Ro would be a more than willing participant. He tilted his head as he looked at the other, almost daring the man to keep playing with him. Rory loved to play.

“I could make you start.” It wasn’t an idle threat and they both knew it. When challenged, Devin had a habit of making things harder and he knew Rory was pushing on purpose.

“You heal, you get over it. Move on. Much worse has been done to me.” Heather almost shuddered thinking of the psycho who had sired her. “I’m a lot tougher than I look.” She winked at her friend. “I’m just a soft bitch around you because I can be. I’ve been known to tear some heads off.”

“My son and daughter think murdering people is date night so I don’t think anything you confess will scare me.” Especially when Chance had dragged her along on a kill once and she was more horrified at what she was capable than anything Heather did. “Plus you know I can just raise every dead thing in a five mile radius if you step out of line?”

irksxme:

“Did she really just act like you two were friends?” Heather was great with giving advice, and bonding with Britt’s family was important to her. “Just kiss her?” The blonde prompted. “That would probably help a lot. If she doesn’t like it then you know she’s not into you, if she does you know she was just shy.”

“She invited some guy to meet up with us and then spent the rest of the night making eyes at him,” she groaned, leaning heavily against the wall. “I swear, I have the worst fucking taste in women. Luna and Talyse have better luck than me and Luna says Tal was damn near a mute when Epiales found her.”

irksxme:

“OK I don’t know who you are or which one you belong too, but I’m Aunt Heather. I’m her best friend. Can you just let me in?”

“Dad’s never mentioned you,” she replied, still refusing to budge from the doorway. “Nor has momma.”

irksxme:

“I don’t think I will.” Kodiak leaned against the bar. “I hear you’re half angel half demon.” He smirked. “Think we’re related?”

“It wasn’t a request. We’re closed.” And he had hellhounds to back his word if need be.
