“So what’s the alternative, huh? Stick around, keep feeling like you’re trapped and hope your family don’t find a reason to just kill you anyway?”

It was a stab in the dark but if someone feared that they’d be hunted down and killed, then that usually meant that whoever they were afraid of weren’t above finding other reasons to harm or kill them even if they didn’t run away.

He bristled at that, a snarl catching in his throat. He knew the other’s words were striking too close to home when his uncle had been run off for trying to save pups from the slaughter but he didn’t want to let on to just how much he was afraid of his own pack.

“You don’t know what you’re talking about.”

mythsandmonsters:

“Then let me spell it out. Neither of us talks about what we are to the other and just treat this as you being a kind person helping an injured person seek treatment for those injuries, then go our separate ways. That clear enough?”

His choice of words might have been a little coarse, but his tone was more just begrudging exasperation and a desire to not bring himself more trouble for the time being at this point.

Fine.” She could tell there was something extra about him, the scent of magic was hard to miss when she had met witches before. She wasn’t sure if that was what he was, but he smelled about the same.

“Let’s go before someone calls the cops.”

“That’s not a bad thing.” Viv couldn’t imagine not being ready to throw a punch at a moment’s notice, but she knew most people hadn’t been raised like her family. “I think they wanted you to have the chance to be normal, too. As normal as possible.” Not feeling safe immediately had her worried, but she did her best not to show the near-panic that flashed through her. “Would another school help? Or would home schooling be better? Because if you don’t feel safe, then fuck it. Your well-being is more important than any other shit and that definitely includes your mental well-being too.”

“I don’t think changing schools would help much. I never really fit in all that well to begin with.” It was hard bonding with normal humans when she hide her favorite parts of herself. It was part of what had drawn her to Teddy in the first place. She liked that she didn’t have to pretend with him. “But I think I would start feeling caged if I was stuck at home all the time too.”

pettythieveswithpotential:

“Of course not. The feline thing is the only reason I think you could throw a solid enough punch to get them to back off without a few years of training. I didn’t tell you to bite them. Decking a kid who’s being a dick is a pretty normal thing to do as long as you don’t break a bone or something.” She didn’t comment on the boyfriend, figuring if Aislynn wanted to share, she would. “Have you talked to your dads about it? I think Chase wanted you to go to school because we didn’t really… get to. But you’ve been going for years. If you wanted to bail and do online or home-schooling instead, they might be okay with it?”

“I’m not a fighter. I take after August too much on that,” she mumbled, shrugging a little. Although she couldn’t help but wonder if that sort of trait had contributed to her mother’s death as well. “I think it was more because they wanted us to blend in better and seem more normal. Draws less attention overall. But I just… I don’t want to do it anymore. I don’t feel safe there.”

“Another kid? I missed another kid?” Heather sighed. “I’ll have to bond with it.” Heather still hadn’t had a kid, though taking care of her fledgling certainly was a job like one. But he was a man in his late twenties so it wasn’t exactly the same thing. “Do I need to threaten her boyfriend?” She asked with a tilt of her head. “I miss them all. Being around you is always like being with family.” Heather had never really had much of a family, Britt was really the closest it got for her.

“Not sure Levi would like being called an it and his girlfriend bites,” she warned playfully, nudging her a little. “I wouldn’t? Trace isn’t a bad guy, he’s half wolf and half fae with some mental issues, but he’s on medication. Star pretty much makes sure he stays on it,” she explained, trying to word it as best as she could to keep Heather from worrying. “Then stop vanishing, dumbass. And tell me about this fledgling before I strangle you.”

pettythieveswithpotential:

“There’s like a 50/50 chance your dad would just kill them himself if he knew. Good advice isn’t my thing, kiddo, and I’ve never been great at dealing with shitty people. You could punch them? You hit one hard enough, the rest tend to knock it off. I can teach you, if you need. I’m sure your dad tried, but like… I’m closer to your size.”

“Are you forgetting the whole feline thing? I’m not supposed to draw attention and that would draw attention. Besides, they mostly left me alone until…well, no one at school likes my boyfriend and I’m an easier target.” She smiled weakly, a little hesitant on even mentioning Teddy to anyone in the family. “I just want to not go to public school anymore.”

irksxme:

“Does it look like I care?” Dying wasn’t something Heather was afraid of, she had enough spite to come back as a ghost, and having a best friend like Britt? Yeah she didn’t fear death. “Fine fine. Can we move onto a better topic then?” Heather frowned at her best friend. “Like literally anything. Starla. Tell me Starla is still cute and nice.”

I care. I’d rather my son not murder my best friend because resurrection is a bitch to do and I think my one aunt would beat me if I literally brought another person back entirely.” She had gotten away with it twice and she doubted a thrid would go over well. “Starla has a boyfriend that she mostly stays with these days. Not entirely thrilled about it because he’s got some issues, but she’s an adult so I can hardly tell her no. Mort’s got kids of his own now too and the psycho had two more. Teddy’s a mess but he’s got his sweeter moments and Dahmer’s a sweet girl. Az and I had another kid in your absence too. Lyri helped.”

irksxme:

“Are you trying to tell me that his type is girls that look like you?” Heather’s hands went to her hips as a dark look passed over her face. “Well I’m immortal too. And now I’m pissed off.” She huffed. “What’s the deal, Britt? I need you to tell me everything. Right now.” Heather had always been willing to kill for her best friend, she wouldn’t even had to think about it at all. Britt came first in her life. She was the only steady part of it.

“Vamps are only semi and you know that,” she countered. She didn’t want to answer her question on his victim type when it still made her skin crawl, her fingers playing over her own stomach, tracing her scars through the fabric of her shirt. She had memorized them. “Doesn’t matter. I fulfilled my end of the bargain and Sera keeps him as controlled as anyone can manage.”

irksxme:

“Oh come on. You used to be.” Heather sighed, letting go of her best friend. “Are you shitting me?” Now the vampire was wishing she had been here to protect her friend. “Did he hurt you? I swear to the council if he even thought about hurting you I’ll… I’ll do whatever you let me do to hurt him.” Heather pursed her lips.

“I’d really rather you not go near him. He’s immortal and you fit his type,” she pointed out. It was the biggest downfall in having a best friend that could almost pass for her sister. “He didn’t…hurt me, but we made a deal.” And she was still having trouble coming to terms with what she had done.
