Isaac gave the child a warm smile, but it was clear that there was a little tiredness behind it. Not that he wanted either of them to leave, but he was still in the early days of his recovery and had limited energy to spare on much else.

“In time. Be patient,” he explained, firm but forgiving of her youth. The little ones needed guidance in learning boundaries, and Genesis was clearly no different.

Cadi caught the look in his eyes and gently plucked the pup from his lap. “We need to let him rest, okay?” she said softly, trying to keep Genesis from launching into a fit at being moved from where she was clearly comfortable.

“I stay and nap then,” the child insisted, crossing her arms and refusing to budge.

“Not that I know of, but I wouldn’t put it past them to have tried at some point. I don’t think I have any scars I don’t know how I got through, so read into that whatever you want.”

“You can’t see every inch of your own body,” he pointed out. “Plus, if it was done right, there’s ways to make the scars minimal.” Either way, he was going to have the kid checked professionally for that reason.

Me: I need to sleep because I have to be up in like 7 hours
Chance: -is awake af-
My brain: We should write more Chance related drabbles
Me: No, no we should not. We should sleep
My brain: HOPE YOU LIKE HORRIFYING NIGHTMARES THAT ARE GOING TO WAKE YOU UP REPEATEDLY THROUGH THE NIGHT (:
Me: WHY ARE YOU LIKE THIS????????

Probably one of the least triggering drabbles ever written including Chance.

Things had not gone as plan in his attempt at speaking to his son, but Chance was hardly surprised. Sera kept insisting it would take time and effort but he knew he didn’t have the emotional depth to do any good. It was frustrating and he kept saying things wrong.

By the time he left, he couldn’t get the itching feeling out of the palms of his hands, so he made a detour. She wasn’t his usual type, blonde, sure, but not pretty enough. Her hair was too short, face too thin, eyes a weak shade of grey. But she screamed easily enough and it relieved some of the tension.

No one batted an eye when he came home coated in blood. It was part of the reason all of the furniture was dark. He left a smear of blood on the refrigerator, he’d clean it up later, when he grabbed a beer and made his way back to the living room.

Sera asked, of course, but his response was short enough to keep her from asking further until he calmed down.

But it was Arcadia that surprised him. The pup had only been with them a short time, her physical injuries still healing and the emotional ones still visible in her eyes. She was hesitant as she stepped into the room but she crossed it anyway and sat on the floor next to his legs. The blood didn’t seem to bother her as she laid her head against his knee and closed her eyes, body relaxed against him.

After several moments, he reached down to run his hands through her hair, leaving streaks of red through the blonde almost absently. He had never liked dogs before but she was an exception. Even for a girl, her mannerisms were more canine than anything.

At least she was already too damaged for him to really fuck her up any further.
