“Okay,”
Charlie wouldn’t press the subject further, based on the way Adi seemed to retract a little, even if she didn’t seem aware of her own reaction. It was enough to convince Charlie that Robbie was certainly the issue though, a slightly sick feeling at the similarities it seemed to draw to things that had happened with his older brother, Rayne.
His questions were making her uneasy, her brother’s constant warnings coming back to her and echoing throughout her head. It didn’t make sense, really, that a complete stranger new to town would be asking things like that or reminding her of her brother in some ways. But here they were.
“He loves me…” she added on, sounding more and more unsure of her perception on the reality of her life.
“Then tell him that. Just be honest with him and tell him what you want. Do that and I think you’ll find that you’ve been worrying all for nothing.”
Warren could understand her concerns. This was the first real relationship Nyla seemed to be even remotelly serious about, and it was understandable she’d be afraid of the unknown.
He was right, she knew that, but that didn’t exactly make it easy. If there was one thing Nyla wasn’t good at, it was admitting vulnerability. Of course, her father would know that well enough.
