The moon was full, silver light making the girl glow as she stood in the center of a clearing. The ground beneath her bare feet shimmered and pulsed, strands of magic twining around her lithe form. She looked almost ethereal, the illusion broken only by the fear in her crystalline blue eyes.
The ley lines held her tight, nestled where they intersected. She was trying to learn to control her abilities, but the lines saw her as nothing more than an instrument for their own use.
Glimmering threads tugged her to her knees, the earth rippling when her hands sank into the cool, dew damp grass to catch her balance. Her eyes widened as dozens of flowers pushed up from the ground and burst into bloom, the sweet scents of the different flora catching on the warm night air like perfume. The power continued outward, seeking and climbing, half dead trees caught in the wake and returning to life. The power felt hot against her skin, but she wasn’t warm herself. If anything, she felt cold.
It wasn’t until the magic touched something else, something not tethered to the flow of the earth, did Calla realize she wasn’t alone. Following the path of the recoil, she froze at the sight. He wasn’t human and the ley lines did not seem happy he was there.
It was enough to scare the girl as she stood, the energy returning to glide across her pale skin like the winds of storm, red hair twisting and tangling in it despite nothing else moving from it.
“Who are you?”
