That Chance had shown up at that moment was enough of a surprise. That he was apparently expressing enough concern for his safety and warning him off of following instructions he’d apparently been sent in a text message from his grandfather’s phone was almost unheard of.
“What do you mean, a trap?”
He knew it wasn’t going to be the easiest conversation, but it hardly seemed the thing to be focusing on at the moment. After all, the boy was important to Sera and that meant keeping tabs on him was a good thing.
“Why would your grandfather text you for help instead of his brother or sister? Or even Avalon? Starla is a terribly talkative girl when worried. Clearly better instincts,” he remarked, making sure he was still blocking Kellen’s path.
“Go to your mother’s. You’ll be safe there.” He left the do not make me repeat myself unsaid, the hardness in his eyes all the warning he was going to give.
