The conversation only grew more interesting as she spoke and he wondered if she were the type of witch who would be willing to make a deal. They could certainly use that kind of ability, though something about her seemed too… innocent for that kind of arrangement.
He forgot, sometimes, that the things he said sounded cryptic to people who didn’t know as much as he did, who weren’t as old. “Literal loss of self being death. Figurative being… more complicated. Anywhere from the usual power corrupting and turning you into someone you don’t recognize to… messier situations. Strong magical sources sometimes have a will of their own.”
The mention of death or corruption had Calla trying to take a step back, but the lines held her firmly in place. She really didn’t need to be told that they had a will of their own when they had literally rooted to the spot, tendrils of pure magic snaked around her ankles and calves like vines. Something told her not to confess that, not to tell him that the ley lines literally whispered to her, begged her to come to them until she couldn’t ignore it any longer.
He’s not safe, they whispered, the words faint like the scent of rain to come. “How do you know so much?”
I’m in a lot of physical pain (my legs feel sort of like they’re on fire) and I can’t soak in the tub because it’s too fucking hot and it’ll make me heat sick. And then Mia keeps starting fights with the other cats. Getting up to break up literal cat fights is making my pain worse. Fml
