Of course, he knew. Even if Lyri hadn’t called him and given him a heads up, it was still his job to know certain things, be an agent of change and a catalyst to certain events, especially when he’d already been partly responsible for setting this particular chain in motion all those years ago.
It posed a slight awkwardness to it in terms of going behind Tass’s back, but this was something that went far beyond Tassos’s feelings in the grand scheme of things.
“I gotta say, it didn’t take you as long as I expected it would, so credit to you for that. That’s why you’re here though, right? Because you can’t ignore that feeling anymore, can you?”
“It’s the lack thereof that’s posing issue,” he corrected lightly, trying to mask the tension in his stance with a certain nonchalance. He held no doubts that Cam could see right through him.
Chance picked at his nails, dried blood still clinging around his nail beds. He has only done a rush job of washing up before heading over, the kill taking some of the edge off of his nerves.
“I need to be able to feel Jack’s emotions. I don’t…I don’t know how to fix things if I can’t understand the scope of it. Sera’s explanations don’t go deep enough. But, I do not want this to be some permanent bullshit. Just enough to understand my kid.”
