“You grew up with magic and all that. I grew up with hunters. Makes things harder sometimes.” In fact, it had almost never made things easier. Once or twice it had helped him to evade hunters, but for the most part it had just made him paranoid. He pursed his lips for a moment. “She ever mention missing… us?”
“I grew up with serial killers.” And it had definitely affected the sort of person he had personally grown up to be. Jeff wanted to lie, to say something cruel, but he knew it would hurt his mom more than anyone else and he honestly couldn’t bring himself to do it. Not when she had worked so hard to help him find balance in himself. “She cries. Usually when dad’s not around. Goes to some graveyard and talks to her first mom’s headstone and cries. I followed her a few times, to make sure she was safe.”
