“Never said I didn’t have any friends or anything, did? Money puts a roof over my head, food in my mouth and lets me not have to worry about those things continuing to be a thing, so yeah, that makes me pretty damn happy. Got plenty of people in my life to fill those ‘voids’, thanks.”
He wasn’t trying to be snarky, but the whole ‘money doesn’t buy happiness’ thing had always struck him as being something people with too much money said to poor people like it was some kind of discouragement from trying to get anywhere in life.
“It’s damn useless in the pack,” she replied with a shrug. Arkos financed everything, sure, but there wasn’t really an excess of money laying around. They all had what they needed, money was put back into the surrounding town areas and to charity, people mostly left them alone.
“We run kinda like a commune. Just less culty.”
