“Well then it sounds like we’re going to have an awkward afternoon, doesn’t it?” he answered, perching on the arm of a chair. “So do you wanna talk about what’s got you so agitated? Other than me, I mean.”

“No,” she snapped quickly, curling in on herself in the farthest seat from him. The last thing she wanted to do was discuss her ex with anyone, especially him. It was hard enough to even think about much less discuss.

“I don’t care!” he protested, biting his lip. “I don’t care because without you I’m dead anyway.”

He was getting upset again, partly because he knew how crazy it sounded to anyone who didn’t understand what he met. Hell, he hadn’t really understood it at first, not until he tried to walk away and gotten sick like he was going through drug withdrawals, even before Jeff had dragged him back in with promises he’d be better.

“Why the hell would you think that? You’d be better off without me in your life and we both know it,” he argued despite the way the words made his stomach knot painfully. He didn’t know what he would do without Ollie when he was stable. If he could be okay all the time, he would give damn near anything for it, but it would be worthless without the coyote lying beside him.

He shrugged. “Regardless of whether or not you believe that I care, you have my company until I have souls to collect.”

“I don’t want it.” Anyone else would have left already after telling her to go fuck herself and it was beginning to get make her panic a little. She wasn’t used to anyone arguing with her about them wanting to stay.

“Well then it’s a good thing I don’t really plan on staying a sober person, isn’t it?”

They made such a pair on that front, Damian having a tendency to stray into the territory of being a little too morbid and pessimistic for most people’s taste, but that was was a hazard of the job; dealing with demons and spirits was dirty work in some of the worst ways when it came to the effect it had on a person.

“Well then drink up, buttercup.”

She wasn’t sure if she actually thought he was cute or if she was honestly just that bored and in need of release. It had been a bit of time since anyone that looked even remotely like a possibility had stumbled into the bar and she was tired of things that ran on batteries.
