“Different strokes for different folks.” Rocket shrugged, holding his position on disagreeing, but he wasn’t going to argue with her about it, and he didn’t see much point in mentioning that he’d never actually spent anything close to a thousand dollars on a pair of jeans, or really any other item of clothing, for that matter. Sure, he had a few pairs of shoes and a leather jacket that had run him into a few hundred bucks, but at least those were things he’d get a lot of wear out of so he could justify the cost. He just wasn’t the spoiled brat she seemed to think he was implying he was.

“We got a decent wi-fi network and shit, don’t know how Ark managed that shit, but he did,” she offered, changing the subject easily enough as she led him through the wooded area until the first cabins came into view.

“That one is Ari and Adam. Ain’t nothin’ get past the two of them. Adam’s a damn good tracker too. Over there’s Shiloh and Sparrow. Shiloh’s daddy and Ari are siblings,” she explained, pointing out each occupied little home and telling him how everyone was related until they got Arkos’s office/home.

Kelly nodded, wincing a little when his stomach made a slight rumbling sound as if almost completely on cue. With how hard he’d thrown himself into things earlier and how much he tended to eat normally anyway, there was a good chance he’d probably put a fair dent in almost everything that had been brought over, the wolf in him practically ravenous now that he was acknowledging his hunger.

“What sounds good,” he asked, more than willing to heat up anything he wanted or to actually just cook for him. It wasn’t really until everything had clicked did Arkos realize just how…domestic they seemed. He doubted anyone in the pack would actually be surprised by the given turn of events, but he damn sure was.

“Neither was I, but here we are,” Delaine answered, a small, ironic grin curling his lip.

Delaine was still a little hungry, regardless of having to adjust his original plan slightly, but it was only a small change and one that could definitely be accommodated without issue.

“If you’re hungry, we could order? Or we could skip the formalities, grab a little something off-menu to share and take it back to mine?” he drawled, only a faint indication of his old accent creeping in as he punctuated the words “Off-menu” with a deliberate glance at one of the table staff as they walked by.

“I don’t think that would be necessary. I’ve got something a little better than what they do,” he answered, letting his eyes shift for a moment, one going chartreuse and the other black. He was less vampire than anything else in his mix, so his blood definitely carried a better kick than anything human.

“But I wouldn’t be opposed to taking this elsewhere.”

“I don’t think even the most advanced cameras in the world could quite pick up everything in front of them. It only produces an image, after all, not the nuances of everything the other senses detect.”

He was sure that Lewis had also picked up on what he was by now, so there was no need to skirt around it when it could be far more fun to just be open and relaxed about it, the two of them predators hidden in plain sight from the senses of all the mortals around them.

“Fair point.”

He noticed the choice of words and wasn’t sure he would have bothered to be so subtle in his own speech but he guessed it had something to do with the humans milling about.

“Can’t say I was expecting someone closer to kin though.”

mythsandmonsters:

“Funny thing about cameras, they never seem to do justice next to the real thing.” he purred teasingly with a smirk as he slid into the seat opposite.

He certainly hadn’t been expecting to find another of his kind, but Lewis’s forward behaviour over text message suddenly made a lot more sense, though it changed the game enough to make things so much more interesting than just a casual fuck and maybe feeding on him.

He couldn’t argue that logic, the damn things never picking up the subtle flecks of yellow in his own eyes. It was one of the things that bothered him the most about the damn things.

“Especially cell phone ones.” It was a little surprising he had never crossed paths with him before around the bar that Warren had down here, but he figured there had to have been a fair few near misses.

The place was still relatively busy, regardless of it not being peak business hours at that moment, but it gave just the right amount of cover in case things went wrong while also offering a little privacy.

It wasn’t until Delaine reached where Lewis was sitting, however, that he noted that odd little pull he felt whenever he was in the presence of anything as non-human as he was, though beyond the faint scent of blood that was a tell for all vampires, he couldn’t quite make out the rest of the mix, nor did he notice any familiarity of his scent.

Up close, he noted a sense of resemblance between the man and his grandfather, but it didn’t really matter. He had never been told of any living relatives there so he was willing to write it off as a weird coincidence.

“And here I thought the picture was nice enough,” he remarked, completely skipping the polite societal norms of saying hello first.

mythsandmonsters:

That only had him blushing harder and smiling more bashfully, Theron beginning to feel a definite heat in his cheeks that spread up even to his ears.

“Just not really used to compliments and such, or anyone being particularly affectionate with me is all.” he shrugged, biting his lip.

If anything, his words broke her heart a little. Everyone deserved to be treated with love and kindness.

“Then you’ve come to the right place. I’ll take care of that,” she promised, twining her fingers with his and giving his hands a light squeeze.

mythsandmonsters:

Ollie had managed to dry himself off and at least put his underwear back on in the time it took Jeff to get him some food. He’d thought to try to put his jeans back on too, but the stitches in his side pulled a little too much for comfort so he abandoned the effort and curled up on the end of the bed instead, avoiding the areas on the bedsheets still caked in blood so that he wouldn’t undo the reason he’d taken a shower in the first place.

He set the food on the bedside table before digging out a loose pair of sweat pants and offering them to Ollie. They were low enough at the hips that they shouldn’t bother the wound too much.

“Here, try these and I’ll change the sheets,” he muttered, not really wanting to look at the blood either. It was just making his stomach feel tight with disgust at what he had done and the even worse desire to bury his face in the stains and inhale the scent.

mythsandmonsters:

“Maybe, but I think you know she’s smarter than anyone gives her credit for, and that if it was purely out of duty, your youngest son wouldn’t exist.”

Azrael was still sickened over the fact that Jack had been conceived as the result of an unspeakable act, but now that Sera was clearly in a much stronger state of mind and had sway over Chance in more ways than just the agreement, Azrael could at least say that she wouldn’t have bore Chance another child unless it was willingly on her part.

“I knew that before too,” he muttered, his gaze dropping once more. Sera had always had some spark, some flicker of something that most people missed. They had seen her sweet smile and never thought to look beyond that, but he had.

“The other reason I’m here is I want Theodore to stay here over the weekend.” He doubted there would be an objection to that one. They had always loved having Manson over when she was young too, but it seemed like he was supposed to make sure there was no conflict of plans first.
