“You’re stuck with me. As stuck with me as you’ve always been. I’m not going anywhere, so suck it up, buttercup.” He sat down on the other bed. “You really wanna be rid of me, you’re gonna have to kill me. Which I mean. I’d really you rather not do that, but I guess if you really wanna, there’s not much I can do to stop you. But I don’t come back from that shit so keep that in mind, I guess.”

“Or I could kill myself,” he pointed out. It wouldn’t be very hard to set himself on fire, not fire was what he was good at. All he needed was a lighter and he could force the flames to eat him up and they both knew it. “Would be easier and then I’d be done with everything.”

mythsandmonsters:

“Maybe?”

Trent wasn’t as completely oblivious as he made out sometimes. He knew damn well that his mom had asked Pheme to keep an eye on him after he’d given the last couple of bodyguards his parents had assigned to him the slip. He didn’t mind much this time though. Even if she never gave in to him flirting with her, he quite liked that she let him take up the challenge.

“If she does, I don’t think I wanna know about that. I might be a pretty open-minded kind of guy, but there are some things even I squick out about, and what my parents do behind closed bedroom doors is one of them.”

“Kind of adorable.”

She was being a little condescending, but her aunt had told her that if she made things a challenge, he was less likely to try ditching her or getting around her. It would keep him occupied. It sounded just fun enough for her to agree to do it, but him being cute was sort of an added perk.

“I was referring more to her weird taste in serial killers, but, sure, we can go with kinky bedroom games.”

mythsandmonsters:

The confusion melted away into a smile that bordered on cautious excitement, although she also felt bad she’d made a mess of the moment for him.

“Sorry I kinda screwed up your plan.” she murmured sweetly, taking the ring out of the box and crossing over to him. “Didn’t mean to. Just had a bad day. You can make it better for me if you’d like?”

She held out the ring in a gesture that said she was happy to let him ask her again more on his terms, though from the sudden sparkle in her eyes, it was pretty obvious she already had her answer for him.

Some of the tension eased from his frame, the glare softening a little around the edges. “When don’t you fuck up my plans, Sera?” It was more jest than anything serious, but there was still some truth to it. Things with her never went exactly how he planned.

He plucked the ring from her fingers and knelt, staring up at her with the faintest glimmer of something close to actual emotion in his eyes. “I don’t like that your last name isn’t the same as mine and our son’s. Marry me.”

mythsandmonsters:

Sera sighed and opened the box with a frown, but that quickly disappeared when she saw what was inside, a brief flicker of hesitation at whether she was assuming the correct thing for a moment until she realised she could smell that he’d been cooking her favourite food too.

“Is this…?” she asked, her tone softening, but still a little confused, wanting to make sure she was reading the situation right before she reacted again.

“Yeah. And, before you can ask, yes, your father already knows I was planning on asking. That’s why I told you to take Teddy to their house for the weekend,” he muttered, crossing his arms and glaring to try to hide the weird nervous feeling he had pooling in the pit of his stomach.

“Marry me.” It wasn’t an order, but it wasn’t exactly a question either. He wasn’t good at asking but he was trying.

mythsandmonsters:

She was still angry, but her rage was paused slightly by the confusion that surfaced over the small box on the table and the complete randomness of the action, Sera not quite getting for a long moment what it was or what Chance had been intending to do.

“What? What is this?” she questioned irritably, looking bewildered and in need of an explanation.

He gestured at the box, clearly irritated. “Open it.” It had taken him months to find a ring he liked, but it beautiful and dark at the same time. It fit what he going for and the words carved in the band were a reminder of what she was to him.

“I had a plan, but you wouldn’t just take my damn word without arguing.”

mythsandmonsters:

“No, he’s not!” Sera practically screamed.

Chance might have found it easy to ignore these things, but she still had the capability to worry even if he didn’t and if she was honest, she was damn terrified of the possibilities of what could happen if the school and the authorities knew the truth about both their home life and what they were, and not just for them, but the entire family, especially the ones who were vulnerable enough to be taken out by hunters if they drew that kind of attention.

“Oh for fucks sake, Sera!”

He dug the ring out of his pocket, still encased in the slightly dented box and slammed it on the table. This wasn’t how he wanted to do things, but if they kept this up, he would just end up chucking the damn ring into the river and telling her to go fuck herself. It wouldn’t end well for anyone.

mythsandmonsters:

Sera rubbed her temples, her anger threatening to spill over at how dense Chance was being over the whole thing.

“If Teddy puts someone in the hospital, they will have him locked up in a psych ward because they already think he’s a danger to himself and the other kids. Are you not listening? They know he’s unstable. They are fighting to have the state step in and do something about it, as in having him committed under a court-appointed order. That is exactly what I’m trying to prevent!”

“The longest they can hold him for is 72 hours, Sera.” He had been there, done that. He knew how the system worked and he knew the boy could be damn charming when he wanted to be and in a situation like that, he would tell Teddy to just play the victim. Sympathy could get him far. “The boy is fine.”

mythsandmonsters:

“It’s the part where he goads people into trying to kick his face in that I’m trying to fix, but you’re not helping!”

She’d tried to sit down with Teddy and explain to him that it was better to just keep his head down and not start fights but even when Teddy tried to behave, he still wound up in trouble because he’d already acquired a reputation and the other kids wouldn’t let him forget it.

“Kid just needs to learn how to throw a punch and quit holding back. If he puts one in the hospital, the rest will leave him the fuck alone.”

It had been how he had handled things. Well, almost. He had almost beaten a kid to death over kissing his twin, but he had no reason to even think of her anymore. He had what he wanted and she was still in those damned chains.

mythsandmonsters:

“He needs to be socialised with more than just family, Chance, or else how is he going to be able to function enough to keep himself hidden in the outside world? You of all people should understand how important it is that Teddy can at least pass as one of them because he’s like you! Isolating him will make him worse.”

Even Chance had had some public schooling before he went completely off the rails so Sera couldn’t understand why he didn’t see that the same thing was necessary at least in part for Teddy, since Teddy’s problems ran into other area’s beyond just the ones he inherited from his father.

“There are other ways to go about that,” he argued, beginning to get more than a little irritated. This was not how he had wanted the night to go and he didn’t like losing control of a plan.

“Putting him in a place he’s forced to go with people that keep trying to kick his face in is helping…how? Because all I’m seeing is him getting closer and closer to taking an assault rifle to school and shooting it the fuck up and then we’re going to have an actual problem.”

mythsandmonsters:

“Excuse me but are you the one who has to deal with this every time it happens? Are you the one who has to sit there and be condescended to like they think you’re a bad parent because Teddy says things most people find abhorrent? Are you the one who has to comfort Teddy when he has a meltdown or after he’s had the shit beaten out of him for the third time in a week? Don’t you fucking dare tell me I’m being paranoid when I’m the one constantly trying to clean up the mess enough to stay one step ahead of those assholes so they don’t come knocking on the door, because we both know just how fucking well that would play out, don’t we?”

“Then just take the kid the fuck out of school, Sera. It’s not that fucking hard to set up online classes for him to. Why the fuck do you think I didn’t want him in public school to start with?” he finally snapped back, turning to face her. “The kid is too damn much like me to do well in that sort of shit hole and we both know it. For fucks sake, no one is going to be taking that kid out of this house.”
