“Dying, by any definition, is something I’d prefer to avoid, even if you do come back after, but that’s hardly the point.” Gideon sighed, quickly realising that she wasn’t going to be so easy to discourage, though hearing that she was a phoenix certainly helped him work things out better.

“Look, this isn’t me trying to spin you a line or anything, but if you were to touch my skin, accidentally or otherwise, you’d fall in love with me in such a way that it would eventually drive you to madness, and I don’t mean that figuratively. For mortals or anything that doesn’t possess abilities that render them immune to death, it would eventually prove fatal, and since I am unfamiliar with how that would affect someone like you, I couldn’t say for certain that the cycle wouldn’t continue to repeat itself even after you are reborn.”

“Okay, maybe you’re used to people just dying to touch you because you have some weird magnetic affect, but I don’t want to touch you.” It wasn’t entirely true, he was beginning to make her want to punch him, but that wasn’t the point.

“Besides, my tears are damn good at healing corruptions and negating toxins.” She didn’t cry often, but she did keep a vial of her tears on her at all times. It was easier than just setting herself on fire early with how long her life cycles were supposed to last. “Just because someone’s curious about you doesn’t mean they want in your pants, dude.”

mythsandmonsters:

“What, you expect me just to cut all ties with my old life, pack up and move to the sticks just because I’m a wolf now?”

It sounded absurd at best, and a little frightening at worst. He didn’t want to lose the life he’d scraped together for himself out of the mess his parents made of raising him, and the thought of just disappearing and leaving people who did care about him hanging with no word on where he’d gone didn’t sit right with him.

“Did I once say that? Boy, do ya ears work?” Her eyes rolled and she resisted the urge to growl as she dug a bag out of the back of the van. It was one of the reasons she wasn’t all that fond of bitten folks.

“Cuttin’ off yo life like that will make you feral quicker than anything and feral can’t always be saved. Besides, that’s the fastest way to attract hun’ers and that’s a death sentence. Just sayin’ it more in a the simple shit’s what’s more important in life than jeans that cost a grand.”

mythsandmonsters:

Knifeplay always made him nervous, but that was mostly because there had been times Jeff had gone too far and stabbed him, but he’d learned that that was usually if he showed any resistance to it.

Instead he kept still, barely a whimper escaping him. The cut itself didn’t hurt at first with how sharp the blade was, but as it opened up and blood began to trickle from it, he felt the warm sting of it enough to shiver just a little.

The blood had him entirely transfixed for a few moments and he licked his lips slowly. He kept the blade as sharp as possible to keep it from doing too much damage, but it was still something to cause pain.

The hand with the knife moved to the gash in the shirt and pulled. The sound of tearing fabric annoyed him a little, but it served a purpose. He wanted to see the damage he was causing as he dragged the blade along Ollie’s side.

mythsandmonsters:

If the belt hadn’t been so tight, Ollie might have yelped slightly as he was yanked forward, but the buckle pressing into his Adam’s apple cut off enough air to stop any sound coming out.

The look on his face acknowledged the truth in Jeff’s words, though there was a hint of something there that suggested he was often in the frame of mind to willingly let it happen.

Slowly, he slid a switchblade from his back pocket and held it at eye level for the coyote to see as he hit the button to trigger the blade. It was the same one he used every time. He had other blades, but some of them had a higher silver content and he knew he wasn’t allowed to kill Ollie.

That didn’t mean Jeff didn’t have a habit of getting out of hand though. The blade slashed against Ollie’s chest, cutting the shirt as well as his skin. It wasn’t deep enough to need stitches, but it was enough to make him bleed.

mythsandmonsters:

The impact sent Ollie dizzy and knocked the air from his lungs, the coyote only thankful that his ribs hadn’t broken too.

He didn’t try to lie again or argue, taking the warning of the spots in his vision and falling into a completely submissive posture, resigning himself to the probability he’d be crying in the shower once he knew Jeff was asleep.

He liked the more submissive stance and he took a step back. He never looked away from Ollie as he undid his own belt and pulled it free of the loops on his jeans. It was hardly the first time he had wrapped that strip of leather around the other’s throat and pulled it tight.

“So fragile,” he breathed, giving the belt a sharp tug to pull Ollie closer again. “I could break you into a million fucking pieces and there’s nothing you could do about it.”

If taking a few shots of that nasty rotgut meant a few less killing Chay’s liver, it was a price she’d gladly pay even if she hated the stuff personally, but when it came to people she actually bothered to care about, Gypsy didn’t mind taking one for the team from time to time.

KNocking it back as best she could without tasting it, she only wheezed a little as it went down, returning the empty shot glass to the bar and motioning for him to slide over another.

He smirked at her reaction to the shot before tossing back another with ease. The first time he had touched the stuff, he hadn’t been able to keep it down. But fifteen years was a long time to build a tolerance to the taste and affects of it.

He slid her a second shot, impressed but still quiet.

mythsandmonsters:

Ollie didn’t think he could give an answer to the question that wouldn’t earn him pain for it.

“I-I’m… I don’t know…” he faltered, struggling to make eye contact with the black, empty pools where Jeff’s eyes used to be, so he shut his own for a moment and took a couple of deep breaths to try to steady himself.

“I’m fine.”

“Liar,” he hissed, his free hand gripping at Ollie’s jaw. He was careful not to bruise him there, not where it could easily be scene, but that was the only consideration he showed before shoving him against the wall. He didn’t care if Ollie’s head hit the wall a little too hard, it wouldn’t show a mark and the sound was satisfying.

mythsandmonsters:

Ollie nodded and complied silently, not sure if Jeff meant just to sit up or stand, so he opted for the latter just in case.

He was shaking visibly, but fighting hard to make it stop. Showing weakness made things worse. He’d learned that when he’d cried one time and Jeff had almost broken his jaw for it.

One hand curled around the back of the other male’s neck, his grip tight enough to bruise as he pulled him forward. His head tipped to the side as if he were studying him, but no one was home in that gaze.

“Why are you shaking?” The question lacked any warmth or concern, a thread of condescension marring the otherwise flatness of his tone. He had yet to do anything to warrant such a response.

mythsandmonsters:

That was the thing he feared most. When Jeff’s eyes turned black, it told Ollie he wasn’t dealing with Jeff anymore and it was too late to run, so the best he could do was hope it didn’t last or he didn’t end up hurt enough to need medical attention. Other than that, he’d learned to enjoy it in some ways, shutting out anything that upset him and just focusing on the parts that felt good so he could wait it out and convince himself everything was okay.

“Get up.” He voice was level, bordering on cold as he stared down at the figure huddled up in his bed. The noise in his head was receding, being replaced with a static emptiness as the shaking in his hands disappeared.

When he wasn’t in this state, Jeff couldn’t help but wonder how great of a surgeon he could be if he could control that darkness in him. If he could turn the violence of it into something useful. But he was beginning to doubt that was even possible. Each time he had to stitch Ollie up afterwards was proof of that.

mythsandmonsters:

Only once Jeff turned his back and trashed everything on the dresser did Ollie flinch, looking like a kicked puppy as he curled up on the bed, chewing his lip and trying to hold back the sting of tears in his eyes.

He hated seeing Jeff like this. It damn well terrified him, even though he still tried to justify everything by telling himself that Jeff didn’t mean it, that it wasn’t really him doing those things, as much as Luna tried to convince him otherwise.

It didn’t take long for Jeff to begin completely dismantling the dresser. The drawer were thrown against the walls, the smallest one thrown closest to the bed. Anything that didn’t splinter on contact was used to smash the frame of it all.

He breathing was heavy, usually blue eyes almost solid black as his attention was finally brought to Ollie in full.
