Day: January 21, 2018
“I’d rather be alone.” It would be easier to get out if he didn’t have to worry about August, too. Or easier to accept failing if it didn’t mean they’d both die. “I handle things better on my own.”
“I’ve come close to dying alone too many times. It’s not something I want to go through again,” he countered quietly, curling in on himself a little more. Chase being there was the closest to comfort he had to cling to.
Ollie was too worn out to wake up so he never heard the apology. He did wake up a few minutes later though when he heard Jeff moving around the room getting together the things needed to patch him up.
It was a good thing Jeff had enough medical training to fix most of the damage he inflicted, because the last thing either of them needed was to have to explain to Cord or Eli why OIlie was so cut up in the first place and that would only expose what was going on to Ollie’s parents and he couldn’t handle even the thought of that happening.
He didn’t really bother to cover himself up often, but he was pulling a clean pair of scrubs when Ollie finally stirred. It was quicker than taking a shower before stitching him up even if Jeff did still need to wash his arms and hands.
“I gotta get you patched up… You’re still bleeding,” he mumbled, trying to bury his emotions so Ollie wouldn’t catch on to them.
“I can’t!” he screamed, repeating his earlier protest.
Of course, he knew Luna was right, but he wasn’t ready to go through all of that yet and he honestly couldn’t say when he even might be willing to try. He didn’t want to see the look of heartbreak in his dads’ eyes when they found out what he’d been hiding, especially when he knew Sean had been through something almost identical before he met Damien, and he knew it would kill him to find out Ollie was suffering the same way he did.
And even if he did tell his dads and he tried to leave Jeff, Ollie knew Jeff wouldn’t let him walk away so easily after the few times he tried at the start of their relationship when things started turning sour. If anything, Ollie was afraid that Jeff would snap and kill him for leaving, or if he got with someone else, he’d kill them, and all of that somehow seemed so much worse than the status quo.
“Yeah, well I can,” she snapped back through her own tears. She had seen her father’s body riddled in bullet holes and listened to her mom’s screams from inside the fire. She wasn’t about to add seeing Ollie’s body to her list of nightmares, not if she could stop it.
Logically, she knew it would be easier to just tell her own dads and let them find a way to break it all to Damien and Sean. They would definitely be a lot less blunt about it than she was bound to be, but it would be easier for Ollie to squirm out of it that way and she knew it.
Kelly had no idea how he’d let the whole day get away from him like that, but it was clear that he hadn’t been of sound mind at the time. Now that he was much calmer though, and had an answer to the problem, he was already beginning to feel the relief of it enough that he didn’t think it would happen to that extent again.
“She made rabbit stew. There’s also stuff from a few other pack members.” He often had a lot of food around because some of the elder women thought he didn’t enough. It almost felt like they often forgot he was rather skilled in the kitchen himself.
Ollie was a light sleeper anyway even before he and Jeff had started seeing each other, so he stirred when Jeff touched his hair, though he didn’t wake up completely just yet, just moved his head a little before settling again.
With the cut in his side still being enough of an open wound to need attention, it was still bleeding, leaving a small pool of it beneath his body, though not as bad as when it was freshly opened up. Depending on just how much total loss he’d gone through though, he’d probably feel somewhat tired and run down for a few days while he recovered.
Jeff was gentle as he moved to press a soft kiss to Ollie’s cheek before slipping out of the bed. He had enough medical supplies around to be able to numb the area and stitch him up properly, but it was better off being done in the bathroom simply because it was easier to sanitize.
“I’m so sorry,” he whispered, hoping Ollie was still asleep enough to not hear just upset he was feeling over it all.
Ollie was crying now. He knew how bad it would be for everyone who cared about him if he died, but he wasn’t strong enough to leave Jeff and it made him hate himself all the more for it.
“I’m sorry…” he whimpered, curling up. If he had a better way to make things right that still somehow kept Jeff in his life, he’d take it, but he knew that logically there was no way to do that, but forcing him into a corner by Luna telling Damien and Sean wasn’t going to make Ollie any less suicidal either.
“Your dads can help. They’ve dealt with people like Jeff before. Please, please just fucking let them do their job as parents,” she begged, voice cracking over the words as she stared at him.
It hurt to see him like this, but it was better than the alternative. His dads could, at the very least, get him the help he needed and that was worth anything to her.
Sleeping with his hands cuffed above his head wasn’t exactly comfortable for him, but Ollie had gotten used to it when Jeff had forgotten to bother before. Any other time, he’d have gotten up and disappeared into the bathroom to take a shower, especially when things were really bad, but being left in cuffs meant he had no choice but to just sleep and hope that when he woke up, Jeff would be himself again.
As it was this time around, Jeff hadn’t used him as a punching bag, so the bruises were mostly limited to bites ringed with clear teeth indentations and marks that vaguely resembled handprints where he’d been grabbed a little overly possessively, and his cuts had been added to when Jeff decided more blood was needed, and that still caked most of Ollie’s torso, thighs and neck, and matted his hair.
His hands were shaking again as he checked over the injuries, but this was more horror at what he had done than anything else. The cut on his side was going to need a few stitches, but the rest of the wounds just needed cleaned and bandaged properly. It was a relief.
Hesitantly, he ran a hand over Ollie’s hair, not wanting to wake him just yet but also needing to get him cleaned up at the very least.
When she threatened to tell his dads, Ollie flew into panic mode, sitting up completely with a look of absolute terror in his eyes.
“Please don’t do that,” he begged desperately, visibly shaking at the prospect. “Don’t tell my dads, please, Luna. I can’t… Please don’t. Don’t make me have to deal with that.”
She was almost in tears as she looked at him before shaking her head. She couldn’t keep doing this and he wouldn’t listen to her.
“You’re not leaving me any choices! I don’t want you to die, don’t you get that? If my options are finally pushing the issue and you walking out of my life or having to bury you, I’ll take option one every fucking time because I’ve seen too many people I loved murdered and I am not going through that with you.”
Once Ollie had given up any sense of resistance and gotten into a submissive headspace, the fear disappeared, all his focus on the physical sensations and letting his brain translate any pain into something good, his body responding to Jeff automatically and willingly with fevered enthusiasm.
The time passed in a weird hazy blur for Jeff and he could never be sure if it had been 10 minutes or two hours, but it was always a startling feeling to come back into himself. He could smell blood and his stomach tightened as he turned to look at Ollie. It wasn’t…it was bad, but it wasn’t as bad. He had done worse, not that that made it better.
Slowly, he leaned over the other and undid the cuffs, hoping like hell they hadn’t been left on for too long. He was quiet, eyes blue and full of self hatred once more. He was just glad to see the rise and fall of Ollie’s chest to prove he was breathing.
