mythsandmonsters:

“As long as they’re not occupying by force, I got no issue with them.” He reassured, raising his hands in a passive gesture.

“I have my reasons and I wouldn’t expect anyone to understand without me spilling my guts, which ain’t gonna happen anytime soon, so how about that drink, hmm?”

She had to bite her tongue at that one. Not everyone that came through here had a decent sense of morals, but so long as they didn’t cause issues for the bar, her mother let them hang around.

“Don’t worry, I’m not interested in tragic backstories. I prefer the fun stuff,” she replied with a wink before walking back to the bar, hips swaying suggestively.

mythsandmonsters:

“Performing exorcisms without the proper clearance.”

It wasn’t about whether or not he still believed anything the Church taught. Damian had his own reasons to be uncomfortable, but he didn’t exactly want to get into them with most people, even those he knew well, let alone someone he’d just met.

“That’s not what bothers me. I wouldn’t care if the world did end. Pretty sure I’m headed to Hell regardless.”

“Maybe I shouldn’t have asked on that one. Some of tbe regulars might not like the idea of you being here.

Her smirk turned to a frown and tipped her head to thw side, studying him for a moment.

"Then I fail to see what the problem is.”

mythsandmonsters:

“Nah, meeting Az came after, actually.” he pointed out, his fingertips drumming gently on the tabletop in a way that looked like a hint of a nervous tick.

“I take it you mean that literally?”

There was an almost deliberate nod of his head as he spoke, as though he was processing the information and being careful how he reacted. He might not have been one of the faithful anymore, but a few old habits died hard when it came to names and associations, and most were taught to fear that name in particular, even if Azrael had assured him the bar was safe.

“What did you do to get kicked out then?”

It was an effort not to laugh at the look on his face. While ahe didn’t quite have her mother’s skills with emotional manipulation, she was rather good at reading people. She had spent far too many years in this place not to be.

“Oh please don’t tell me you still believe every lie the church ever told. He steals my mother’s high heel boots and says he looks better in them and fucks with the clergy for fun. He’s not out trying to end the damn world.”

mythsandmonsters:

“Very smart if he’s following that sort of career.” Theron agreed, impressed by his nephew’s apparent ambition and choice of path in life.

The comment she’d followed up with had him blushing a little and faltering, not quite sure how to respond.

“Aye,” he managed to mutter, but he felt like he could have done better with his response.

“He’s a good kid.” Her fondness over him was as obvious as her pride.

She noticed the blush, it was hard for her not to, and she grinned before leaning in and pressing a quick kiss to his cheek.

“Didn’t mean to get you flustered or embarrassed or anything, promise.”

mythsandmonsters:

“A disgraced priest excommunicated from the Church,” Damian answered, leaving the option for her to inquire further open if she wanted.

“And no, not for the first thing that probably popped into your head. I’m not into kids,” he added as a quick amendment, just in case, since he’d had at least one person jump to that conclusion before when he brought up his former calling.

“Actually, I figured it had something to do with hanging around a fallen, but thanks for that clarification.”

She paused, wondering if she could freak him out just a little. “And now you’re sitting in a demon owned bar, talking to Lucifer’s daughter. Talk about a fall from the favor of the church.”

mythsandmonsters:

“I was being polite.”

He wasn’t entirely sure how well it would go down if he mentioned his line of work and it not being particularly favourable to demons, but he hadn’t come to cause trouble, especially when he had no issue with the ones who’d acquired meatsuits by at least vaguely ethical means, or were past the point he could do anything anyway.

“My relationship with both sides is a little complicated, to say the least.”

“Polite is no fun.”

Not that she would really know. Eva had never bothered even pretending to be nice. It never got her what she wanted in the long run. Or it took longer than she had the patience for.

“Complicated? Do I want to know?”

mythsandmonsters:

“Family business. Makes sense.” he nodded.

It was safe to assume that the angel who was her father was fallen, or else the place wouldn’t be operating as a sort of sanctuary, since it was fairly common knowledge that anyone still working for Heaven had a duty to turn in any fugitives, and the place clearly had wards up even against hunters from his own species.

“So are you the god fearing sort, or are you a little more fun?”

“Did my uncle not tell you what my mother is?”

Most everyone that came here because of someone else knew the bar was demon owned. The fact that he could maek Trigger as a hellhound should have been a clue as well.

“They named me Evangeline because it was funny and there is a hellhound tending bar. Only one thing keeps hellhounds.”

mythsandmonsters:

He didn’t really want to say anything else on the matter, afraid that if he opened his mouth, he’d break down completely and wouldn’t be able to stop.

Instead, he just nodded gratefully, trying to hold himself together as best he could until he could get to Ava’s place in Detroit. He’d call the kids once he was settled just so he could reassure them that he wasn’t leaving permanently, but he didn’t yet know when he would return either.

It wasn’t much, just a small, one bedroom apartment, but the rent and bills were paid in full for at least the next six months. She kept up on it, but she didn’t have much of a reason to.

“I’ll bring you by some food later, okay?”

mythsandmonsters:

Damian quirked an eyebrow, readjusting his appraisal of her. He’d at least caught on that she wasn’t human at all, but the conflicting sense he got from her hadn’t been easy to pin down, like a compass without a magnetic bearing to fix to, until now.

“So which of your parents is the angel?” he answered back with a curious, but slightly cautious purr.

“My father,” she returned, givinf him nothing else. If was really curious, he’d ask. It was always far more amusing that way.

“My mother owns this place.”

mythsandmonsters:

“Yeah, like a heavily tattooed puppy with a surprisingly deep voice for how he looks.” he nodded, a broad grin spreading across his face at confirmations he was in the right place at least.

She leaned in a little, the smirk taking on a more mischievous undertone before she spoke. “Sweetie, that’s my uncle.”
