mythsandmonsters:

If he was ignoring her now, it was only because he was trying to hold himself together until he could be alone. If he hadn’t broken his hand, there was a good chance the mirror wouldn’t have been the only thing he trashed once she was gone.

It wasn’t until the door closed that his resolve started to crack, a slight whimper catching in his throat as he let the pain rise up again, bringing with it a few tears, but nothing more than one or two silent sobs as he stayed in the bathroom until she left completely.

Once she was outside, she was sinking to the ground, her back against the door as began to sob. Between knowing Rhodes was following her and everything that had just happened, she was far too overwhelmed. Everything kept playing over in her head until she felt sick to her stomach.

mythsandmonsters:

Gabriel was just thinking about getting through the next few hours, just long enough to get Eli to fix his hand. Once that was over with, there was a good chance he’d spend the night in the bar, trying to drink the place dry or until he passed out, whichever happened first.

Beyond that, his mom would probably want to know why he’d punched the mirror, and she probably wouldn’t be too happy if he told her the truth, but Gabe wasn’t thinking that far ahead.

Using the wall to brace herself, Eva stood slowly, eyes closed as she tried to adjust. The room was still spinning, but not nearly as bad. At the very least, she could get outside before collapsing again. It was a start.

“I’m sorry,” she mumbled again, pausing in the doorway for a moment before leaving the room. She wasn’t going to let him see her cry again and she couldn’t bare to see the pain on his face anymore.

mythsandmonsters:

It was clear that the latter half of the sentence made him hurt more, his jaw tightening and nostrils flaring, Gabriel thankful only for a second that his eyes were closed so Eva wouldn’t see just how much it felt like twisting the knife to him.

Of course, he didn’t want that, but he didn’t know if he could take being treated like shit and pushed away by her anymore because he just didn’t trust her to actually care about him as much as she might claim.

She went to lift her head and the world didn’t swim that time. It was a start, but she was still exhausted and feeling physically weak. She’d be happy if she could be upright long enough to get to her car. At least she could sleep it off in the back seat and then start the drive home.

Staying wasn’t an option anymore, not with how badly she had hurt him. He didn’t need to be around her, didn’t need to keep aching because of her. All she was hoping for at this point was that he wouldn’t hate her forever.

mythsandmonsters:

He didn’t want an apology. He was the one who punched the mirror and an apology for shutting him out didn’t really hold any weight or meaning to him right now.

Gabe leaned his head back against the wall and closed his eyes, trying to focus solely on the pain in his hand to distract him from everything else. He couldn’t bring himself to get up and leave the room, and as much as he didn’t want to talk anymore, he wasn’t about to try to force Eva to move if she wasn’t well enough to do so under her own steam.

“I’ll go when I can stand and…and you won’t have to see me again if you don’t want to,” she continued, the last of the sentence a little rushed. She was trying to get the words past the lump in her throat, the thought of losing him from her life completely making her want to breakdown completely.

mythsandmonsters:

She hesitated a little again before she understood that Cay wasn’t being completely serious, but it was easy to get carried away with how enjoyable the tactile stimuli of the soft texture and purring, and the way Blake responded to her touch by rubbing up against her.

“This is why I wanted Blake to meet you first. I figured he would be the easiest one for you to get comfortable with,” he explained, reaching over to scratch behind Blake’s ears.

mythsandmonsters:

“It’s not like I have much choice, is it?”

Gabriel didn’t bother asking what she was going to do. At best, he thought she’d wait around just long enough to feel well enough to drive again and then she’d be gone, and there was no point him trying to beg her to stay when that was how they’de ended up in this mess to start with.

She winced a little, hating herself a little more. Apologies hung on the tip of her tongue, but Eva had no idea how to make them come out right. The last thing she wanted to do was make things worse, if that was possible at this point.

“I’m sorry,” she finally mumbled, hugging herself as best as she could from her current position.

mythsandmonsters:

Nissy giggled again at the way Blake felt practically like he was vibrating when he purred and after a few moments, she seemed to have forgotten enough of her timidness to scoot closer and get at him with both hands, combing her fingers through tracks of fur, scratching him intermittently when she ran over a spot that was apparently a little more sensitive to touch.

“Keep that up and he’s never gonna shift back,” Cay laughed, teasing gently. It was always harder to get Blake to shift back without the right bribes, but he could hardly make those offers with his baby sister present and not understanding that sort of thing.

mythsandmonsters:

“I’ll call Eli later.” Gabe murmured, shaking his head. He was more concerned about tending to his emotional wounds rather than his physical ones right now, hating how much he’d let her get under his skin and that he’d let himself be vulnerable in front of her and got the worst possible response from it.

“Promise?” She wanted him to be okay more than she could bring herself to admit. She had a feeling if she tried to say it, it would only start another fight and she was too out of it to handle that.

mythsandmonsters:

There was barely a moment of hesitation between being told she could touch Blake and her hand reaching out tentatively, barely skimming the surface of his fur at first, quickly pulling back slightly before she got more bold about it once she’d found that the sensation was quite pleasing to her.

Blake purred happily and nuzzled at Nissy’s hand, enjoying the attention. It was definitely one of his favorite things about being in this form.

Cay smiled while he watched them, relieved that it was all going over so well. He figured it would be best to keep her social interactions to one person at a time to let her adjust at an easier pace.
