He hummed softly, some song Lilah liked to sing. It was comforting to him so he only assumed it would be to anyone else. When she was more adjusted, Cay would start introducing her to people. But for now, even he knew she needed to get used to just being awake without added stress.

Nerissa nodded off quickly once she stopped fighting it, her natural state of being falling over her as she slipped under, back into the warm embrace of sleep, though she didn’t immediately go back to dreaming, her exhaustion enough to let her rest a while just like her father.

It wasn’t long after he felt her body relaxed that Cayden drifted off as well. Any excuse to sleep was one he gladly took, but he had learned to balance it. A good night’s rest and a series of naps made it possible for him to function almost normally, but he also didn’t need to sleep quite as much as his dad did. He could only hope his little sister was closer in waking ability to himself.

“Hypnos,” he supplied gently. It made sense for her not to be sure what to call him. She had been alone in his dreams for so long, longer than anyone should have been.

“You won’t be alone. I’m here now. I can get into your dreams if I need to by touch,” Cay explained, sincere as he went back to stroking her hair. “You’re not alone anymore.”

His promises helped reassure her, but it was reasonable that she’d be so clingy and nervous to start with. After all, it took everyone time to adjust, no matter how young or old they were when they were woken up.

She settled again, curling back up against Cay’s chest and letting the sound of his heartbeat soothe her and confirm that she wasn’t alone, even as her eyes started getting heavy.

“You won’t,” he soothed, snuggling against her just a little more. He already sounded tired.

“I can wake you up here and the dream’ll just slip away. Promise.” He wasn’t about to let her relive nightmares or wonder if she was going to be alone.

“There’s never anyone there inside, except me and…”

She wasn’t even sure what she was supposed to call the man that was apparently her father, and Bridget had only been there just this once to bring her out, so she worried that if she went back in, she’d be alone again.

“What if he’s not there anymore? I’ll be on my own.”

“It’s okay. I’ll keep you safe,” Cayden murmured, running his fingers through her hair gently. It was his job to protect her and no one would convince him otherwise. Besides, touch made it easier to help if she got trapped in unpleasant dreams.

“What if I get stuck again?”

It was a genuine concern, and she had no idea just how exactly dreams worked in the first place even though she was one, and she certainly didn’t know yet that she had the ability to affect and shape them.

Wyatt doesn’t really do sad. Not often, at least. It doesn’t fix anything, change anything, so he’s never been one for moping or dwelling on the less pleasant parts of life. Death has never been a big deal to him, not when he grew up around ghosts, so being a reaper is easy, most days. But some aspects of it never get any easier and he lets out a tired sigh as he settles down on the other’s couch. “Thanks for letting me drop by. I just… had a long day.” It’s the kids. It’s always the kids who are the hard ones to handle.

She had no intentions of asking, she never did. Instead, she smirked and handed him a drink. “You don’t usually call ahead,” was all Ko bothered to say before pouring herself a drink as well.

“You mean the whole immortal thing?” They had already covered what his family was and she done her own research, but it was still a little impressive.

Aislynn fell quiet for a moment, picking at a loose thread on her socks. “Does it worry you that I won’t live as long? I mean, August says shifters can live to be a couple centuries if not killed, but… I mean, I don’t want to end up breaking your heart…” She had been thinking about this a lot and it honestly worried her. She didn’t want to ever hurt him.

“Mhmm.”

Honestly, Teddy had a habit of forgetting that shifters weren’t true immortals without some sort of magical influence to extend their lifespans, but he didn’t let on that this hadn’t really occurred to him about her.

“I don’t want to spend whatever time we’ve got counting down the days til that happens.” he murmured softly, a sadness in his tone. “I’d rather just focus on what we have got, okay? We can worry about that shit when we come to it.”

She wiggled about a little, almost like she was trying to burrow into his bed, before she reached her hands out to him. She wanted him closer, to be curled against him.

“I’m sorry.. I shouldn’t have brought that up…” But it still worried her down to her very core.
