Warren only had to take one look at the arrow sticking out of the kid to know what they were dealing with and that they were against the clock. Racing back upstairs, he was met by Eli, who advised him to call Cord and Kori too, in case it wasn’t going to be a one medic job.

Gabriel was writhing in pain and whimpering, straining against the swelling in his airway as Eli got down to the basement and made a quick assessment of the situation before opening up the portable crash kit he’d brought with him and getting to work on at least making it easier for Gabriel to breath.

“Who and what do you need to make sure this kid survives?” she snapped, trying to hold Gabriel still but not do more damage to his shoulder. She was a killer and a lawyer, she wasn’t a healer.

Ben had gotten Eva back to Ava and Warren’s, but he was forcing her to stay upstairs to let them work. He only brought here there in the first place because she would have fought him otherwise.

Az didn’t know what he was referring to for a moment until he spotted the box in Chance’s hand and immediately squinted at it with a mixture of vague suspicion and confusion.

“Is that what I think it is?”

He shrugged before holding the black velvet box out in the palm of his hand. It was clear that idea alone was making Chance uncomfortable, but it was less bothersome than the alternative.

“You said you didn’t like being left out of big choices and shit.”

mythsandmonsters:

Gabriel wasn’t aware of it, but the burning sensation was his skin breaking out in a blistering rash as it reacted with the silver. He thought to try to pull it out, but the moment he tried, he knew it was a mistake, the pain ramping up to excruciating levels that had his legs going out from under him enough that he collapsed against a parked car.

His vision swam uncomfortably, making him vomit and disorienting him enough that he only barely registered Ava hauling him to his feet as the allergic reaction stepped up and he started to struggle for breath.

Eva dropped her phone as she tried to catch him. Nothing else mattered and, honestly, if there was another hunter still around, she was pretty much screwed. They both were because she was completely oblivious to their surroundings.

Ava got him back to her her house quick and in the basement. The lighting was better down there to start with and it was easier to clean and sterilize it.

“Warren! Call Rhys and Maddy. And then call Damien or Asher to go and go and get them. It’s bad,” she advised, her voice strained as she carefully settled Gabriel down. “Is Eli here yet?”

mythsandmonsters:

That sounded ominous, but from the tension in Chance’s body language, Az figured it was something about Sera, so it was better to just let him say his piece and fix whatever the problem was.

“Okay.” he nodded, opening the door wider to let his stepson in.

Chance hesitated before slipping past him and inside, hands shoved deep into his pockets. His right hand fidgeted with the box for a few moments as he tried to think of how to word it before he sighed heavily and pulled the box out.

“I don’t know how to do this shit.”

mythsandmonsters:

It was only a moment longer that Gabriel realised something was really wrong. Sure, a normal arrow to the shoulder hurt like hell, but the pain would be localised to the area of the wound, not starting to spread like a colony of fire ants across and under his skin.

“I-it’s silver…” he barely managed to choke out against the agonizing sensation.

“Call Ava.”

If he didn’t get to someone who could treat him fast, he’d go into massive anaphylactic shock and die, and neither of them had the ability to get him there fast enough, so they needed someone who could.

The moment the words were out of his mouth, she was fumbling with her phone, trying to get her fingers to push the damn buttons. By the time Ava answered, she could barely get the words out through her panic.

Ava did only one thing before getting to the kids and that was text Eli to tell him to get to her house asap, emergency. Beyond that, she would handle anything else once she had Gabriel secure.

As soon as she was there, she was telling Eva to call Ben or Lyri to come get her, she couldn’t take them both with Gabe being injured and Eva had nodded, barely hearing her before Ava and Gabe were gone.

mythsandmonsters:

Azrael opened the door as he would have done with anyone else, not expecting to find Chance standing on the doorstep instead, but the change in his demeanour was enough to say that he wasn’t exactly thrilled about it.

“Chance?” he muttered curtly, looking a touch bewildered beneath the somewhat contemptuous expression on his face.

He grit his teeth for a moment, reminding himself not to say anything biting yet. He wasn’t here to start a fight. Not today any way.

“We need to talk.”

mythsandmonsters:

His jaw tightened and he let out a sigh. Yes, it hurt to hear her confirm he’d been holding onto the memory of something he couldn’t have back, but he could be okay with that if Eva wasn’t the person who hurt him either after she’d gotten better.

He opened his mouth to respond, but the moment he did so, he felt something slam into his left shoulder like a forceful shove that hit hard enough to knock his breath from him. Startled and confused, there was a split second where he just stood there for a moment before he turned to look at his shoulder, blinking slowly at the sight of an arrow sticking out of it, triggering his brain to register the sudden burning pain bloom and flare out of the wound.

Her brow creased in confused concern when he stumbled forward silently and it took her far too long realize he was hurt. But when she did, she screamed as loud as she possibly could. It was definitely loud enough to get house lights turning on and startle anyone enough to make them realize shooting people in the middle of a neighborhood was stupid at best.

“Gabe?!” She stepped forward, not knowing what to do. They were too far from her home for her to get her mom.

@mythsandmonsters

Chance hadn’t bothered to call ahead, but he did actually knock and wait for someone to answer. He was trying to do this right. Or so he was telling himself to distract from the fact that he couldn’t shadow travel quite yet and picking the lock was too much of an annoyance. It would hardly go over well if he entered into things already in a piss poor mood and he wasn’t banking on things going stellar in the first place.

But the point remained, he had thought of it all enough to finally swallow his pride and go to see her father.

mythsandmonsters:

Gabriel wanted to believe her but he’d been hurt too many times to trust with complete blind faith anymore. Still, he believed at least that Eva had turned a corner and was trying to fix herself, so that was a start.

“All I ever wanted was to help. I just wanted the old you back and it scared me that you might be gone forever.”

She reached out and touched his hand, trying to soften the blow of the next words on her tongue. It was hard to admit and she had a feeling it would be harder for him to hear.

“I  don’t think I’ll ever be the girl I used to be, Gabe. She’s..sort of like a dream of someone else. But I don’t want to be who I became either. I don’t know who I’m going to be down the line, but the one thing I don’t ever see changing is the fact that you’ve been my favorite person since we were kids and one of the only things I am honestly fucking terrified of losing forever.”

mythsandmonsters:

“I know…”

He shifted uncomfortably, looking at the floor with a sad expression that said he’d learned to be all too aware of that fact and that it killed him that he couldn’t do more to at least help.

“You can’t fix me, Gabe. No one really can. It’s something I actually have to work towards. I know you tried and I know I made it the worst fucking thing ever. You were more than I ever deserved and I’m sorry it’s taken things getting this bad for me to see that.”

It didn’t matter how many ways she said it, the words still tried lodging in her throat, but Ben and her dad were right. He needed to know he mattered.
