“Nah. The only other people that come anywhere near the place are the ones leaving the shift before and the ones showing up for the morning shift. Between that, the place is pretty much a graveyard. Deliveries are all run through the day shifts because warehouse admin don’t work nights, and the on-site guard dogs stay outside patrolling the yard.”

The pattern had never once changed in the time Jayne had been working there, and he didn’t expect it to for the foreseeable future either. Sure, the buildings had cameras, but they were mostly confined to the outside or facing major entry points, not the actual internal areas of the warehouses, so as long as Xander didn’t go near any of the loading bays, they’d never know he’d been there.

He nodded, mulling the idea over as his fingers idly skimmed over Jayne’s skin. Prior to meeting Jayne, Xander had been far from affectionate. Sure, he was kind enough, but he wasn’t exactly physical.

“Okay, I’ll come keep you company for the night,” he agreed, a soft smile touching on his lips.

“Marriage for other reasons has gotten less common over time,” he returned. People still married for financial gain and other reasons, but not as often as they once had. “Did you not want to find someone you actually love?”

“Just because we’re betrothed doesn’t mean we have to actually be together,” he pointed out with a shrug. Monogamy wasn’t really something he had figured for his life, so this wasn’t really a big deal to him overall.

It wasn’t often that Cord passed out on the top of the bar, so it was a bit of a startle when someone actually walked in at 1 in the afternoon. Not that the bar had any sort of regular hours.

“No weapons allowed in my bar.”
