rustandglass:

“I heard you the first time.”

His sullen demeanour and attitude from earlier had become put on hold for the moment, Zayde instead turning his ire on himself as a small part of his brain wouldn’t stop focusing on imagining that scenario, and although only a few seconds had passed, he was getting increasingly angry and distraught at himself for letting even a fraction of his imagination react with pent-up lust, especially when that in itself just brought him right back around to his anger and fear of his father.

The way the scent of lust spiked had Devin turning slowly, a more predatory look on his face as he moved closer. Lust he could handle a lot better than anything else on the table but he couldn’t understand the other scents mingled in it.

“You’d actually love that wouldn’t you? To be bent over this table and fucked senseless?”

rustandglass:

“What?”

Beyond the response being so wildly inappropriate from the conversation at hand, it completely threw Zayde for a loop, stuck somewhere between his anger and self-pity, and the unavoidable mental image that had been suddenly forced into his head. The conflict had him pausing for a moment, trying to untangle the car crash of thoughts, though not fast enough to inadvertently give too much attention to the graphic depiction of a sexual act and cause him to blush for reasons he wasn’t quite comfortable admitting.

“I’m not the parenting type so the only way anyone is going to be calling me their dad in way, shape, or form, is if they’re sucking my dick or getting fucked by me,” he repeated, slowing the words down just a bit.

He could smell the mix of emotions on the other and it was intriguing to say the least. It was the main reason he had repeated what he said and added on to it. He wanted to know just what emotions he could dredge up this way.

rustandglass:

“If you wanna succeed in that, maybe you should act like my dad.”

The words were spat out, dripping with venom and enough of a challenge to dare Lissa’s brother to do whatever it was he was considering, because whatever it was, Zayde doubted it could come close to the things that caused him to act out and want to destroy himself in the first place.

“I have no intention of having kids so the only way anyone’s going to be calling me daddy is if they’re sucking my fucking cock.”

The words were out of his mouth before he could even think to consider them, but there was no taking them back once they were out. So, he didn’t even try to pretend he hadn’t said them.

Frey made a soft sound that told him she was at least as comfortable as she was going to get and that that was at least partly down to his presence. If she was honest, it was almost entirely down to that fact, but she was a little prideful about admitting vulnerability, and she was mentally kicking herself for not letting him closer sooner.

He pressed a soft kiss to the back of her shoulder as he cuddled up to her a little more. “What can I do to help make it easier?” he asked, needing to know she wasn’t in pain as soon as possible because he didn’t like to see her hurting at all.

rustandglass:

If being taunted about his family situation had hit a nerve earlier, his mental statebeing read so accurately had the effect of causing his attitude to falter, even if just for a second, and it shifted gears to make him defensive out of discomfort instead of indignation.

“So?” he muttered, dropping his fork and shoving the plate of food away. “What do you care? I’m just some junkie, remember?”

“Yeah, well, I’m trying to get my sister clean and clearly that’s not going to happen if she’s hanging around you so maybe I only care enough to try to scare you the fuck away from her.”

He could do it, easily, he knew, but he wasn’t entirely sure it was worth the risk of exposing himself.

rustandglass:

“Why?”

Of course he knew it was a stupid question, but if neither of them wanted to be in this situation right now, why continue to be when Zayde could just as easily go be someone elses problem who wouldn’t stand there judging him for it the whole time.

“What’s it to you what I do? You don’t even know me.”

“I know your type and you’re a walking suicide waiting to happen,” he snapped back. “And you’re the only one hanging around Lissa that smells like he needs fucking rescued.”

It was the only reason he hadn’t just dropped the kid at a hospital or a jail, or worse, left him to the vultures.

rustandglass:

“You don’t have to babysit my ass,” Zayde mumbled in response, mouth half full, resentful of the fact he wasn’t just going to leave him alone for whatever reason.

“As a matter of fact, I’d prefer it if you didn’t, and I doubt you really want to anyway, so why not do us both a favour?”

“Well, clearly someone needs to,” he growled, eyes flickering a little as he turned back to the stove to begin cleaning up. It was either clean or throw a punch and he didn’t exactly feel like hitting anyone today.

rustandglass:

Zayde looked confused for a second before the expression was replaced by one that read as him trying to figure out if Lissa’s brother had any clue what Zayde had taken the night before, or that a couple of aspirin had long since become ineffective at doing anything for him with how much of a tolerance he’d developed taking far harder substances.

He took them anyway, figuring he’d only get more earache if he didn’t, dry swallowing them in a motion that was well practiced and born out of a habit of doing the same with whatever pills were being passed around in the clubs and parties.

The cat stood there and watched, making sure the boy actually ate even a little, a disgruntled look still on his face. It was hard enough being responsible for his sister, but this was way more than he had bargained for.

“You should have some toast too, but we’re out of bread,” he finally stated, needing to break the silence somehow, the weight of it making him feel uncomfortable.

rustandglass:

The thought of food made Zayde’s stomach lurch, reminding him just how nauseous he still felt, but he’d been doing drugs long enough to know that it was necessary to force himself to eat if he wanted that feeling to go away sooner rather than later, learning the hard way that if he didn’t at least try to give his body back enough nourishment to counteract the effects of the drugs in his system, he’d get even sicker, a handful of times ending up laid up for a week or two after with flu-like symptoms as his body fought to recover.

Begrudgingly, he accepted the food, but he remained silent, not wanting to give Lissa’s brother more ammunition to taunt him with.

Once the other had settled in front of the food, Devin got him a glass of water and dug out the only bottle of aspirin they possessed and handed him two pills. If nothing else, they would help with the massive headache he figured the other must have by now. Lissa had already bolted for the day, her recovery time faster than a human’s, so it left him stuck with the boy.

“Here.”

”I guess.”

Dominic figured it was much the same as his own abilities in terms of just being raised with them and that being what was normal in their own experience. Still, he couldn’t let himself imagine having to go through pain every time he shifted, not with what he’d already been through himself, so he opted to keep his mouth shut any further about it to avoid questions about why it made him so uncomfortable.

Zia had picked up on the discomfort, but he couldn’t guess the root of it even if he had tried. He wasn’t psychic, thank god, and he wasn’t entirely sure he wanted to know what for skeletons were in Dominic’s closet. After all, he didn’t like digging his own out either.

“Think of it like a good pain, like pushing yourself in exercise. It hurts during, but afterwards, you feel better? I don’t know any other way to describe it.”
