“I’m sure he does,” Charlie nodded, being careful not to sound the least bit sarcastic, but he could see that her resolve was crumbling a little and he didn’t want to start pushing buttons and upsetting her so it was time to back off on that front.
He could have said it with all the sarcasm in the world and she wouldn’t have noticed the tone, her brain latching onto the words as she visibly relaxed and nodded, more to herself than to him. “Sorry… I’m not…I’m not good at people.”
