“You’re not one of them?”

Even the small touch of hope in her question couldn’t hide the sound of terror and distrust in her voice, the girl clearly petrified and past the point of allowing herself to believe that anyone around here was going to help her. She was hesitant to move at first, trying to assess if he was tricking her, but desperation caught up in a matter of seconds, survival instinct telling her that her choice was either trust the stranger and the open cage door while it was offered or be stuck there until they came back to do whatever it was they had planned for her.

Using the bars to pull herself up, she edged forward, still cautious, but her movements quickened the closer she got to freedom, though her body ached a little from the cramped conditions inside the cage.

Logan held a finger to his lips and let his eyes shift, the wolf peering out at the girl for a moment before they faded back to a more human color. It wasn’t smart either, but he was already batting a hundred, why not go for broke?

“Trust me, they catch me and they’ll start putting bullets in me. Was looking for others like me, found you. Only an asshole would leave a girl in a cage and I ain’t that much of an asshole,” he explained, offering his hand to help keep her steady.

Once they got far enough way, he’d give her something to eat and drink, but the main focus right now had to be escape. There would be plenty of time to rest and get her fed up later.

“Well, care to enlighten me on what might work?” As harmless—yet infuriating—as he seemed, Ara had no doubt he could turn on her in an instant and easily overpower her if he wished to. Her psychometry could possibly give him pause, but not likely not enough to let her escape.

“Or should I just wait till you tire yourself out with amusement?”

“If I get bored, I’ll just kill you.”

He smiled like it was a joke, but there was something empty in his eyes and a sense of sincerity in his tone. He’d killed for less before and he wasn’t above the odd murder here and there sport. It was easy not to leave DNA when he didn’t have to touch anything.
