mythsandmonsters:

Azreal shut his eyes, looking like he was trying to use some sort of meditation technique to bear the pain.

“Not as much as what I’m going to do to you when you let me out of these chains,” he promised, a smirk spreading across his lips despite the jagged pattern of his breathing. If Jophiel was so hellbent on bringing back the old Azrael, he sure as hell was going to feel the consequences of it himself too.

“Is that going to be before or after you destroy your little abominations? Oh yes, I do know what you’ve gotten mixed up in, brother.”

He didn’t take the threat to heart, mostly because he wasn’t personally going to be the one to let Azrael out of those chains. He had a plan in mind for that and it was easy to work with since he had already stolen the cell phone.

mythsandmonsters:

“No, I was a rabid dog on a choke chain instead,” he spat back, straining against the chains and the sudden agonising jolt that shot through him as Jophiel picked at the first seal that kept the worst of him at bay.

His breathing grew laboured within moments of the seal starting to crumble, Az fighting against it with everything he had. He didn’t want to go back, and he’d do whatever he could to make Joph’s attempts to as difficult as physically possible.

Jophiel chose not to argue as he continued on, humming to himself softly. The first one was easy, but he knew the deeper ones were going to be harder. It would be easier if the pain of it rendered Az unconscious but he doubted he would get that lucky.

“Struggling is only going to make it hurt more.”

mythsandmonsters:

“But is it for yours?”

Even if Jophiel managed to break all the seals keeping those parts of him locked away, Jo didn’t seem to be taking into account that he would be taking a huge risk in thinking there was no possibility that Azrael wouldn’t turn on him, especially if Az retained any sense of who he was at the moment.

“You unleash that back into the world, that’s on you. Think about what you’re doing before you can’t put it back in the box.”

“You were never meant to be caged in the first place,” was his only reply as he began working on breaking down the first seal.

It was going to take a little time, but that was what the chains were for. They would keep Azrael in place while he worked and nothing could be said to stop him. The other alternative was to drag him straight home and this seemed the lesser of two punishments, whether Az saw it that way or not.

mythsandmonsters:

“You sound just like Him.”

It wasn’t a compliment. In taking away Azrael’s agency, Jophiel was proving that Lucifer had been right, whether he realised it or not, though Az doubted he would admit to it even if he did.

“Can I ask you something? How can you say you’re not a prisoner when you have to resort to doing the same to us to take us back there? You know the cage is there. You just elect to ignore it. It’s not right. You’ll see that eventually. Probably when you do something that has you falling out of His favour, but by then, it might be too late for you.”

“This isn’t you, Azrael. This is a weak shadow of who and what you are. I’m just undoing the damage.”

He basically ignored the questions and accusations, his focus on seeking out the blocks and their weak spaces to start undoing them. Jophiel had no intentions of ever falling and if he could save any of his siblings, he was going to do what needed to be done.

“This is for your own good.”

mythsandmonsters:

Azrael was visibly unnerved at Jophiel’s proposal, immediately understanding what it was that he meant by that, but he would never willingly agree to it, even if Jo thought he could torture him into submission by whatever means he had at his disposal.

“I won’t do it. It doesn’t matter what you do to me. I’m not going to help you.”

“You won’t have a choice.”

Jophiel moved forward, fingers skimming over the side of his brother’s face. It was easy to guess what had been done and it would take less effort to break it down. That was always the best part, breaking walls was quicker than putting them up.

“You’ll thank me later.”

mythsandmonsters:

“I have no idea what the fuck you’re talking about.”

It wasn’t a lie. Azrael had very little memory left of his former life thanks to Dae, but he considered himself better off for it, knowing at least that he used to be nothing but a weapon, the hand of God and the executioner who carried out His wrath. He didn’t want the memories of that person back. They were dead to him now.

“I am talking about restoring you to your former glory. You never properly fell, Azrael. Dahareal meddled with your head and we are going to undo the damage he caused so you can fix the mistakes you and our troublesome siblings have caused. You have access to places some of us cannot get to.”

He was, of course, talking about were Lucifer’s children were hiding. Cassiel had done a fair amount of singing in regards to the bar and it hadn’t been very difficult to get a lesser being in there to gather information for him.

thewitchandtheangels:

“I don’t really do bullshit, my dude. Besides, you already know or you wouldn’t be around here anyway, right? After all, I didn’t mention which side of my family you come from.” He supposed it was technically both with the number of nephilim on mom’s side, but that was none of the guy’s business.

“I was looking for your father, but that is hardly concern of yours.” Truth be told, he was going to give his brother a choice and hope he made the right one. He hated when his siblings chose wrong.

mythsandmonsters:

“Get fucked, Jophiel,” Azrael growled quietly through the pain in his head that felt like someone had tried to hack his skull in two.

If he could have, he’d have punched the smug look off of his brothers face already, but he was bound and unable to move, unsurprised that the other had had the foresight to make sure to use chains that had been marked with spells and sigils to prevent him freeing himself.

It didn’t take a genius to figure out what Jophiel had planned. After all, he’s argue he was simply doing his job.

“Cute, Azrael. Funny.” His brother’s remarks seemed to bounce right off of him as he circled around, making sure, again, that the chains were secure.

Az wasn’t just the final piece in the puzzle, he was the pivotal piece. If anyone had to clean up the messes made, it should be one of the ones that made them in the first place and Azrael was perfectly built for that.

“You’ve made some terrible mistakes, but you have the chance to fix them. All it’s going to take is undoing what our meddlesome brother did to you. Such a sad mockery of what you were. It’s a shame, truly.”

@mythsandmonsters

He had been watching for some time now. It hadn’t been easy to find Azrael, but, letting someone resurrect one of his old vessels had been too much a coincidence for Jophiel to ignore. So he waited, patiently, keeping tabs on what was clearly an affront to God until he was led right to where he needed to be.

It hadn’t been easy to set things up, but Jo knew he was only going to get one chance at this and he was pleasantly surprised when it panned out correctly.

“Did you really think we wouldn’t find you eventually, Azrael? It is time to come home. Father is willing to be lenient on you but Dahareal? Not so much.”

mythsandmonsters:

“It’s a little different for humans though. Our lives are shorter, so we don’t have the luxury of as much time to do that,” Zeke pointed out, not trying to be a downer, but it was a valid point when compared to the lifespans of the people she spoke of, including the pups.

“And that still doesn’t make up for the things I did, even if it wasn’t my choice to do them. Just because I might not be to blame for it, doesn’t mean I can’t take responsibility for hurting people.”

“I mean, you don’t have to be human?” she pointed out, forgetting for a moment that it was probably not the best thing to say to someone that had been raised the way he had been.

“Yeah, but dad says you’re helping him find the rest of Matty’s family and that says a lot. You didn’t have to help but you are and I think that shows you’re a good person. And you never hurt Cadi’s little brother and the other pup with you either, right? Even when they made you do bad things, you still made sure they were taken care of better than the others had been.”
