“Yeah, but if your mom and dad hadn’t gotten together at least twice, I’d be severely lacking two of the greatest dudes to ever exist in my life, and then I’d be stuck dealing with Lewis and Judas all on my lonesome,” Claudia pointed out, habitually running her fingers through Dyson’s hair just because she liked the feel of it on a sensory level.

“So thank god, or whatever combination of booze and bad ideas it was that got your parents to bone, ‘cause I do.”

Dyson paused before shrugging. “Ever noticed that asshole one and asshole two have names that fucking rhyme? It’s like they were destined to be douchebags together,” he pointed out, suddenly far too amused by the oddness of that working out.

“I think that’s called moonshine and depression on dad’s part? He gets really bad around the same time of year and gets shit faced and mom sort of mops him up off of the bar floor.”

babyitsmagic:

“That should make you more cautious.” But he knew people didn’t work that way. Sometimes it managed to make them more reckless.

“If that were the case, I would have no one to play with,” she countered, eyes rolling as she unlocked the car doors.

louisianalostones:

“I can’t predict the future an’ if you’re family doesn’t find a way ta murder me, I’ve got eternity. Might change,” he said, offering her a slight grin that faltered at the next statement. “I prob’bly should’a known somethin’ was up, given how mad ya were the last time ya’d seen me, but ya just seemed like ya needed a good time.” And there weren’t a lot of ways Izzy could cheer anyone up. “An’ probably Erika an’ Jeannie. …I hope Callie ain’t too mad. She’s one’a the only people who still likes me.”

“At least I know my momma and auntie aren’t going to end up in your bed, thank Khaos for that one.” It was about the only thing she could really count on completely. He didn’t fit either of their types. “Tassos came back after….decades. And I honestly don’t know how to handle it. So I got a bunch of pills from Talyse’s brother and ate them like candy.” She shrugged at that, knowing the girls would 100% be there for their brother. “Callie puts up with Luna, so I doubt she’ll hate you.”

babyitsmagic:

“It definitely is.” He wished he hadn’t asked the question, the answer hitting the panic reflex in him quicker than he would have thought possible. People who liked Wilder either screwed him over or ended up dead. “You need better taste in people.”

“That is something I am well aware of. Bad taste is genetic.” And it had really fucked over a decent amount of her family. Even still, she doubted he was going to make her go darkside, so she assumed it was all pretty safe overall.

louisianalostones:

“Prob’bly not, but it ain’t what I’m currently doin’.” To be fair, most of Lyri’s family was gorgeous and Izzy wasn’t blind. “So when’re ya tellin’ ‘em that it’s mine? It’d be nice ta know how long I have before I need ta go inta hidin’.” He was kidding, mostly, though he knew she was right about Elise’s inevitable response. “Gods. He found out his sister’s his mom an’ that his mom’s his grandma an’ now he gets ta hear that his dad knocked up his great grandma.”

“Key word being currently?” She shouldn’t encourage him, but the joke was out before she could even consider how it might sound. “Probably not until I figure out how to break that news. No one is going to be very pleased about all of this. I’ll at least make sure they all know you didn’t know what kind of actual state I was in and that you didn’t take advantage so they won’t be as pissed at you?” She knew what the immediate assumptions were going to be. “At least he’ll have Luna to side with him in his bitching?”

babyitsmagic:

“I think the universe just sees that as a challenge.” It felt like it had in his case, but that wasn’t something he wanted to get into, now or ever. “You this nice to everyone?”

“Then the universe is an asshole.” Which seemed like pretty common knowledge but earned being repeated. “Only to the people I like.”

louisianalostones:

“Ya don’t gotta worry about Benji. He’s not into it so it ain’t happenin’. Kid’s smarter than people give him credit for. As for Ben, ya know I’m not actively tryin’ ta sleep with your whole family, right? It’s just sort happenin’. Only so many immortals in the world, I guess.” Of course, Izzy still wouldn’t say no to Ben and that was at least half the problem. “Have ya told anyone– Shit, what’s Lin gonna say?”

“We both know if given the shot, you wouldn’t say no to trying to make a game of bingo out of nailing my family.” After all, she had played a game of that herself in her younger days with her brother. “Most of the family I live with is death spirit mixed, they know. Not that it’s yours, but they know it exists. You can tell Lin.”

babyitsmagic:

“That kind of question is inviting the universe to fuck you over,” he said, taking the offered hand, largely because he wasn’t sure how steady he was going to be on his feet.

“Maybe I don’t believe in that sort of thing.” It was a lie, Colette completely believed in it, but one them had to be even slightly optimistic right now. She gave his hand a slight squeeze, glad she was sober enough to drive still.

louisianalostones:

“Only tried once, back when I first met her an’ didn’t know any better. Benji, tho, I’ve tried at least twice.” And he still flirted, but he knew there wasn’t going to be anything there. “Maybe. He might be less mad if he weren’t in love with ya.”

“Oh no, you stay away from Benji. That boy is too sweet for you and Kat might kill you if you do anything to hurt him. She named Ben after Benji. And you’re staying away from Ben too.” She had no doubts that Ben would happily go to bed with Izzy since he would hardly be the first person they had both wound up in bed with. “True.”

babyitsmagic:

He scoffed. “Wouldn’t be the first time.” Still, getting arrested was an expense he didn’t want to deal with tonight and he downed the rest of his drink. “If it goes badly, remember it was your idea.”

“I’m a big girl. Besides, what’s the worst that could happen?” It was probably the absolute dumbest question anyone could ask, but she didn’t even consider it as she stood and offered him her hand.
