“It was pretty much the first thing out of his mouth,” Erys shrugged, seeing through Chayton’s attempts to cover up his shock, but it made sense that maybe others weren’t quite so open to letting humans know what they really were like Grayson was.
“Didn’t believe him at first, but he was pretty insistant. Even went so far as to make his eyes change colour when I figured he was just off his gourd on that bag of pills he was munching his way through.”
“Lenses. He’s go’ lenses tha’ change color if he ge’s the ligh’in’ jus’ righ’.” It was a lie Chayton had told one too many times, so it was seamless anymore. He knew there were trick lenses like that it was a good enough line most of the time.
“He likes ta see wha’ he can make people believe.”
“Kid, I don’t even know which kids are your parents. You are way too young for this. I’m grandma’s best friend. I live forever. I was gone for a while. Now I’m back. I have news.”
“No you do not,” she countered softly, an almost unfocused look on her face as she stared seemingly through the blonde. “You have a countdown. I can see it.”
Lex blushed and smiled bashfully, shying away just a little. As much as he was getting used to spending more and more time around the house, he still held some reservations about taking a more permanent step.
“Maybe you’ll get your way some day?” he murmured, his demeanour shifting slightly to take on a more serious air. “I can’t promise when, but I’m not rulling it out.”
His thumb brushed over Lex’s cheek at the blush, a softness in his eyes as he tried to keep close without pushing.
“I know you’re your own person, but I just… I like going to bed with you at night and knowing you’ll still be here with me in the morning is all,” he murmured, feeling a little weird for saying it out loud.
