Even with his limited awareness, it confused Zayde when instead of being escorted outside, he was taken upstairs to the VIP section. Not that he was unfamiliar with that part of the club, since his fathers money afforded him the luxury of access to it anyway, but it was generally closed off completely on nights like this, when the place had been turned into a literal rave and didn’t really attract the upper classes when the club was a seething mass of kids in neon colours and the music didn’t suit their tastes.

At least the padded seating in the booth was a better choice to pass out on, comfort-wise, rather than against a wall of amplifiers, the coolness of the leather replicating the soothing sensation Zayde had been seeking out in his last resting spot.

He still didn’t pay much attention to the person who’d carried him up there, all attention gone from being manhandled to being still again, pulled back under the effects of the drugs now that his senses were no longer being assaulted by uninvited stimuli.

One of the bouncers came over to speak to him, their voices low as Chayton cast a glance over at Zayde every so often. He wasn’t really surprised to learn that this was hardly the first time the other had ended up in this state and the clothing alone had been enough of a tip off on what kind of life the kid had in general. That didn’t make any less frustrating and he could only assume there was some level of abuse involved. After all, that was what had set his dad off the deep end in the first place and never learning to cope had left him in a constant downward spiral.

It was almost like getting a glimpse into what he could have turned out to be had it not been for his aunt and uncle. Granted, he knew he still had that same potential, some deep seated sorrow clinging to his bones and shadowing every part of him in some manner. He had been like that since he had lost his mother and he had never quite been able to shake it.

“Can on’y stay here ‘bou’ ano’er hour. Go’ anywhere I can take ya? Can’ jus’ leave ya fer dead in the gu’er.”

“It definitely feels like a concern of mine. Besides, dad’s working. Y’know, doing their duties, messing up lives, spreading karma, the usual she-bang. You’d be interrupting, which seems counter-productive to the whole mission. Shouldn’t you be bothering someone who’s not doing their job?” He knew dad and uncle Gabe both walked the line, but neither of them had technically rebelled and both of them were still doing what they were made for, albeit non-traditionally. They were both still impressively careful considering their natures.

Jophiel gave the boy a look of distaste. It wasn’t really that clear if the kid knew that he was literally proof enough to get his father punished or not and, honestly, he didn’t quite care. Things would be getting put back right soon and he was merely gathering information until then. “Some matters are pressing enough to warranted being discussed regardless of whether or not he is doing his appointed duties or not.”
